In Call of Duty: Warzone, players are not the only ones waging war against each other. The Battle Royale is also battling cheaters, and it seems a new weapon is about to be deployed. The developers are making a rather obvious hint, and a well-known leaker confirms it immediately: Warzone might be getting a new anti-cheat system.
What’s going on with Warzone? Cheaters are the biggest problem of Call of Duty: Warzone. Big content creators like Nickmercs are leaving the Battle Royale, and players are frustrated with the situation in the game. For a long time, the community has been demanding that the developers do more against cheat tools and hackers in the game, and it seems that the time has finally come:

What does this mean? The 50,000 accounts are likely referring to cheater accounts. The developers occasionally share numbers of banned cheat accounts in this way. Since Raven Software mentions working behind the scenes in this context, it is reasonable to suspect that this refers to a new anti-cheat system.
How certain is this? While the developers could also mean something else, it was just recently that Season 5 was postponed by one day, which surely leads to quite a bit of work. However, one of the most well-known leakers in the CoD scene, Tom Henderson (formerly LongSensation), confirms on Twitter what many players thought when reading the Raven message:

Henderson enjoys a lot of trust and his “predictions” often hit the mark. He correctly leaked Warzone even before the release of Modern Warfare – as a Battle Royale with a free-to-play model.
What are the players’ reactions? Skeptical. There are relatively few positive reactions to this. Hardly any commentator is overly excited about the announcement from Henderson and Raven Software. A user @Samurai2k on Twitter writes: “Finally, an anti-cheat could be implemented. Massive W!”, but otherwise, commenters are more likely to be asking for a date for the introduction.
Due to the tweet, some players believe that the new system will only come with the release of the next Call of Duty in Warzone – which makes sense. This is not well received. @lordfaximus on Twitter: “The game needs it NOW – not in October or November. It is unplayable right now. I went into the game after the ban wave and 3/3 matches had hackers.”
The ball is now in the developers’ court and it is up to them to make something out of this opportunity. Players will be watching the next steps very closely.
A better anti-cheat system could be a game changer for Warzone. The Battle Royale does so much right, plays great, and is among the best titles in the genre. However, the numerous reports of encounters with cheaters from players and large content creators have long dampened the mood of the active community.
