Season 4 brings a lot of fresh air to Warzone
What does Season 4 bring for Warzone? The new season apparently wants to keep up with the pace of Season 3 and makes some announcements for Warzone. And the best part: Everything comes right at the start of the season:
Map change: In the background story, the minions of the Soviet spy “Perseus” continue their dark plans. A few American satellites are in the way and the evil showcase operator of Season 4, Jackal, lets the orbital devices crash down directly over Verdansk. The satellite crash creates new locations on the large Warzone map. A small impression of this was already given by the first trailer of Season 4.
New vehicle – Motorcycle: Warzone gets new, drivable vehicles. The “Dirt Bikes” will then be the fastest vehicles in Warzone and will have special handling characteristics. Drifting, sliding, leaning – the bikes will be very mobile and can also allow you to perform “sick stunts”. You can even take a teammate with a strong stomach with you.
Fast travel system: With the “Red Doors” a new fast travel system seems to be coming to Warzone. The blog post about Season 4 does not reveal all the details, but it sounds like the system might have a certain randomness factor.
New Gulag: The current Standoff Gulag is disappearing and making way for a new Gulag, which is also based on a classic CoD map: the Hijacked Gulag. The new duel arena is modeled after the upper deck of a yacht.
Downtown Tower: The large skyscraper in the middle of Downtown also remains in Season 4. The skyscraper was introduced as “Nakatomi Plaza” during the event with the action heroes of the 80s and will continue to shape the downtown area. However, the vault remains empty.
The multiplayer of Cold War gets a dose of nostalgia
What does Season 4 bring for the multiplayer of Cold War? For the multiplayer you will get two new 6v6 maps at launch, and another will be added during the season:
- Collateral Strike at launch – An abandoned village in the Algerian desert
- Hijacked at launch – A well-known yacht from Black Ops II
- Rush during the season – Large paintball facility, also from Black Ops II
The desert map “Collateral” not only comes as a smaller strike version at launch, but also as a 12v12 variant for larger squad play modes. Also at launch comes a small map for the gunfight modes: Amsterdam as 2v2 or 3v3.
Additionally, the developers are announcing three new game modes. Two of them fans of the CoD series probably already know:
- One in the run at launch – You have only one bullet and 3 lives
- Capture the Flag during the season – Capture the enemy flags
- Sat-Link at launch – Data collection in combat against other teams
As a further attraction of Season 4 for multiplayer, the “Hand Cannon” comes as a new scorestreak. The small weapon comes with 8 deadly bullets that can take down your opponents with one hit – no matter where you hit them. Dataminers expect score costs of 2,800 and a cooldown of 90 seconds (via Twitter).
Season 4 expands Outbreak and sends zombie fans to Berlin
What does Season 4 bring for the zombie mode of Cold War? At launch, the new season expands the Outbreak mode and provides the zombie experience with a new map in the form of a zoo. In addition, you can find new secret data (intels) and the second major main quest for Outbreak is ready with the season launch: Operation Excision.
Things will really get rolling in the zombie mode, however, only during the mid-season of Season 4. In a few weeks, the new survival map will be launched: “The Wall of the Dead”. This time the story takes you to East Berlin, which has been overrun by nasty zombies.
Players of the PlayStation-exclusive “Rush” mode will get the new map “Collateral” into rotation at launch and, during the season, the map “Rush”, as well as the mode “Onslaught Accelerated”, where you can unlock an LMG blueprint.
5 new weapons and an event at launch round out Season 4
What else does Season 4 bring? Other highlights are the upcoming weapons and a live event right at the start of the season. In total, the CoD creators are announcing 5 new weapons for Season 4. For Warzone, there are even 6, as the baseball bat from Season 3 will be available at the start of the season:
- MG 82 – LMG in the Battle Pass (Level 15): High fire rate meets moderate damage and recoil
- C58 – Assault rifle in the Battle Pass (Level 31): High damage at close range with low fire rate and small magazines
- Nailgun – Special weapon/SMG at launch: Effective in close combat, appears in Warzone as a submachine gun
- OTs 9 – SMG during the season: High damage and recoil, but small magazines and range
- Bludgeon – Melee weapon during the season: Takes out enemies in multiplayer with one hit
The nailgun, MP OTs 9, and bludgeon can be unlocked through challenges once the weapons are available.
This is what we know about the event: In addition, the season launch will be accompanied by a live event – Ground Fall. As with previous live events, you can secure cosmetics for thematic tasks. There are separate tasks for Cold War and Warzone that are related to the new content. In Cold War, you have to play the new maps and modes, and in Warzone, the tasks are related to the new satellite locations. For each task, there is a cosmetic, and if you complete them all, you get an exclusive weapon blueprint on top.
Season 4 announces a lot of content and much comes right at the start of the new season. Apparently, the developers want to build on the high pace of Season 3, which provided many fresh elements especially in the Battle Royale Warzone. If the leaks are to be believed, this pace could continue, and there may be a new, large map for Warzone later this year.
But first, Season 4 lets a few satellites crash over Verdansk, and the evil plans of the villains go into the next round. Are you excited for the new season? Let us know in the comments.
