Season 2 of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War launched on Thursday, February 25, and brought several changes and new content. You can find the main adjustments of the two shooters here on MeinMMO.
What does Season 2 bring? On February 25, Season 2 of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War launched early in the morning. The new season brings a lot of fresh content and many adjustments:
- New maps for Cold War
- Map adjustments in Warzone
- Outbreak event
- New modes for both CoDs
- Fresh battle pass with 100 tiers
- New weapons
- Gameplay & weapon adjustments

Cold War & Warzone: What both CoDs share in Season 2
What’s coming for both CoDs? The battle royale Warzone works hand in hand with the current premium title Cold War, and both share content from the new season. In Season 2, this means:
- New battle pass counts for both games
- New weapons LC10, FARA 83 and the machete
- Outbreak event offers challenges
- New prestige emblems and levels
Especially the new weapons are exciting. The LC 10 is a submachine gun, and the FARA 83 is an assault rifle. They are among the most popular weapon classes and are likely to receive a lot of attention in both games.
Additionally, for the first time, a joint event of two CoDs takes place: Outbreak. In the in-game menu, you will now find the tab “Outbreak Event” at the top, where you can view challenges that promise rewards. You have to complete about half of the tasks in Warzone and the rest in the new zombie mode Outbreak in Cold War. Find out here what makes the new Outbreak mode special.
CoD Warzone: Update 1.32 on 25.02. – Patch Notes
How big is the update? This depends on the platform you are playing on. Developer Raven provides the following sizes in the patch notes:
- PS5: 17 GB
- PS4: 17 GB
- Xbox Series X|S: 17.9 GB
- Xbox One: 17.9 GB
- PC: 16.9 GB (Warzone only)
- PC: 20.8 GB (Warzone & Cold War)
What’s coming for Warzone? In Season 1, everything revolved around the new map Rebirth Island. With Season 2, the story in Warzone shifts towards zombies. Along with the focus theme “Outbreak” in Cold War, one can almost call it a zombie season.
The most exciting new features for Warzone in Season 2 are:
- The new modes
- Adjustments to the Verdansk map
- Zombies in Verdansk
- The Outbreak event
The adjustments in detail
In total, the CoD developers announced two new modes for the battle royale in Season 2. One of them is already online at the season start: Rebirth Resurgence Extreme.
In this mode, you start a trio match on Rebirth Island in “Resurgence” mode, where fallen soldiers return for a while as long as a teammate is still alive. However, in the “extreme” variant, you go with 90 players to the small island instead of just 40.
The adjustments to the Warzone map Verdansk are already online. There are a few new locations, but some have also been removed:
- Shipwreck – The cargo ship “Vodianoy” has run aground on the coast near the Gulag and is now fully accessible
- Rocket Silos – Under the Spomenik monuments at the military base, the Tavorsk Park, and the Grazna Hills, rocket silos are now accessible
- Closed: The entire subway, stadium garage, bunkers 00, 04, 05, 06, 09, 11
With the new “Point-of-Interest” Shipwreck in the south near the Gulag, zombies are also coming to the area. Each match offers a certain number of NPC zombies that gather at the shipwreck below. With the undead, you can complete your Outbreak event tasks, and each time all zombies are eliminated, a big loot crate with good stuff appears in the wreck. Warzone is therefore not introducing zombie modes for Outbreak tasks but rather adding zombies as a new element to the map Verdansk.
Not only the new POIs and zombies change the Warzone. The closure of certain areas also alters the map. With the closing of the listed bunkers, there will no longer be any red keycards. The six bunkers are exactly the bunkers with the red keycards.
Additionally, there is the Outbreak event. In Warzone, you can unlock 9 themed zombie cosmetics through challenges. For all tasks, you need to eliminate the new zombies below at the shipwreck in various ways – sometimes with vehicles, sometimes with primary equipment. If you also complete the 9 challenges from Cold War, you will receive a special weapon skin as a reward.
Warzone: Balancing, bug fixes & first playlist in Season 2
What adjustments were made? In addition to the new content and map changes, developers showcase adjustments to gameplay and several bug fixes:
- Floor loot in Warzone has been changed
- The longer players are in the gas, the more damage they take (Anti-Stim Glitch)
- Warzone secrets missions are no longer available
- Adjustments to some attachments descriptions of the weapons from Cold War
- Spawn issues in the Gulag have been fixed
- Some challenges have been repaired
- Heart rate sensor now does not show players with Ghost in the killcam

What does the playlist look like? With Season 2, a new playlist has also been added. These modes can be played at the start of the season in Warzone:

CoD Cold War: Update 1.13 on 25.02. – Patch Notes
How big is the update? As with Warzone, it also depends on your platform here. Developer Treyarch provides the following update sizes:
- PS4: 11.5 GB
- PS5: 19.6 GB
- XBox One: 15.0 GB
- XBox Series X|S: 25.1 GB
- PC: 30.85 GB
What’s coming for Cold War? The content for the multiplayer of Cold War is rather modest at the start of the season. The focus here is apparently on the new zombie mode “Outbreak”. More content for the multiplayer is expected to arrive during Season 2, but at launch, there is:
- New maps & modes
- Map updates & improvements
- New score streak
- Updates for League Play
- The zombie mode “Outbreak”
- Expansion of the zombie mode
The adjustments in detail
As a new map, there is the 6v6 map “Apocalypse”. It is set in the jungle of Laos, near the Vietnamese border, and is thus a map with a lot of jungle. The story behind the map revolves around the new operator “Naga”, who is supposed to stop a team led by operator Woods that is searching for the kidnapped “Eagle”.
A new mode in Cold War is available at launch, the “Gun Game.” This popular party mode is already known from earlier CoDs. You are handed a random weapon, and with each kill, your firearm changes. After a death, however, you go back to the previous weapon. The soldier who lands a kill with all selected weapons first wins the game.
There is also a new score streak: Death Machine. This is a minigun that you can use for 2,200 points at your leisure. The streak is also available in the zombie mode.
While there is only one 6v6 map at the start, there are extensive adjustments to other maps:
- Cartel
- Crossroads Strike
- Moscow
- Satellite
- Raid
- Express
If you want to see the adjustments to the maps in detail, check the patch notes on a Treyarch website. Here you’ll find screenshots with a slider showing you the map before and after the changes. Among them is, for example, an adjustment to the camper bushes on Cartel.
In the ranked mode “League Play”, there were also comprehensive changes – especially to the score streaks. You now have only the cruise missile and artillery available, and your streak points are reset to 0 upon death. However, both streaks cost less – artillery: 1,600 points / cruise missile: 2,000 points.
The zombie mode Outbreak is the highlight of the season start in Cold War. The new PvE mode sends you on missions and takes you solo or in a 4-player squad onto zombie-infested fireteam maps. You must fight your way through hordes, complete your tasks, and after defeating a map, you can decide whether to continue or start an evacuation to end the round. Here you’ll find out what four game modes “Outbreak” offers you.
The zombie mode is even getting bigger. There is a new field upgrade (Rushing Guardian), more tier levels for your equipment, and a new ammunition type. Particularly exciting are these tier levels. There are now two new types of etherium crystals with which you can upgrade your anti-zombie equipment to level 4 and level 5. This will make the weapons, perks, and equipment even stronger. The better crystals can be obtained in the new Outbreak mode or by completing high round numbers in the regular zombie mode.
Cold War: Balancing, bug fixes & first playlist in Season 2
What adjustments were there? In addition to the new content, there were also gameplay adjustments and a few bug fixes. The most important ones are listed here:
- New vehicles for Outbreak and Multi-Team modes: Sedan (normal car) and a light truck
- Shot tracking added to the combat history of the weapons
- New prestige levels and rewards in the prestige shop
- Point cost adjustments for score streaks
- Changes to the smoke grenade
- Adjustments to jumping – lower jump height, thus less landing damage
- Zombie camos should now work in private games
- Dead Ops Arcade can now also be played entirely in first-person mode
- Many adjustments on the zombie map “Firebase Z”

Season 2 brings a comprehensive overhaul and provides Warzone with map adjustments, Cold War with new maps & modes, zombie fans with fresh content, and on top of that, there’s the battle pass. For the further course of the season, you can expect even more content, but there is currently no timeline for that.
