Activision revealed details about the future of Call of Duty: Warzone during its “Earnings Conference Call”. And it looks like the Battle Royale will benefit significantly more from the “Cold War” release than previously thought.
What is going on? The CoD creators at Activision shared more about the integration of Call of Duty: Warzone with Black Ops Cold War during their “Q3 2020 Earnings Call” yesterday (October 29). And there are some strong news for fans of the Battle Royale Warzone.
Apparently, the collaboration between the two shooters goes much further than previously assumed. The two CoDs will not only share the Battle Pass and their leveling system – which has been confirmed so far. Much more, Warzone will simply receive all weapons and cosmetics from the new premium title.
CoD integrates Cold War into Warzone and not the other way around
What did the developers specifically say? In the entire “Call,” there is only one paragraph describing the integration of Cold War into Warzone. But it is significant:
The in-game content of Black Ops Cold War operates under the same system that resonated well with players in Modern Warfare. Starting from the first season with in-game content, Cold War will be integrated into Warzone.
We are bringing the characters and weapons of Cold War along with extensive new content into the free-to-play experience, ensuring that Warzone remains both a great experience and a powerful ramp for the franchise’s premium content.

What does this mean? Warzone has worked so well alongside Modern Warfare that the CoD creators are trying to replicate the same success this year.
The paragraph indeed suggests that all new weapons from Cold War, as well as the operators and many new cosmetics, will come to Warzone. Assuming we look at the “Modern Warfare” release, about 40 new weapons could suddenly become available for Warzone. This would expand the arsenal to over 100 weapons and significantly increase the diversity of Warzone.
By “premium content,” we mean “paid content.” This includes all the cosmetic bundles and items that you can purchase with CoD Points. But also the Battle Pass, which you can level up in both games.

Starts in December with the first season
When does it begin? Although the CoD creators did not provide a specific date for the integration of the “Cold War” content, it seems that everything will start sometime in December. Once the first season begins, the new CoD and Warzone will merge and share at least:
- The leveling system – You will be able to increase your account level in both games
- The Battle Pass – You can also earn progress in Warzone and Cold War here
- The weapons – All weapons from Cold War will be available in Warzone
- Loadouts – You can use the loadouts from Modern Warfare and Cold War in Warzone
- Plenty of cosmetics – The visual items from Cold War will also work in Warzone
How will this work? It is still unclear from the “Call.” There are still a few unanswered questions. For example:
- How do you unlock the Modern Warfare weapons in Warzone if you haven’t played the 2019 CoD?
- Loadouts in Modern Warfare & Cold War function differently; how will this fit together?
- Will the gameplay of Warzone change with the adjustments from Cold War?
- Will there be a new map set in the Cold War?
In the next 1 – 2 weeks, the developers plan to share more information about this. But so far, it looks like Warzone players can expect a significant content drop in December. Whether it will just be the weapons and cosmetics remains to be seen in the coming weeks. Until then, you can already secure 25 free cosmetics for Cold War, CoD MW, Warzone, and CoD Mobile.
Completely new map is becoming more likely again
What else could come to Warzone? The new statements reignite old speculations. While there is nothing official so far, there are already quite a few leaks. The well-known Warzone leaker “TheGamingRevolution” spoke specifically about the possibility of a new map as early as late August. It seems that Verdansk will not completely disappear, but you might play with Cold War on an older version of the city:
The leaker writes on Twitter: “It’s a new map […]. Verdansk was destroyed in the Cold War and then rebuilt. The bunkers or the Gulag will be the only things that will remain the same.” In another tweet, he says that Verdansk will be destroyed by a nuke event, which will represent the transition from Warzone to Cold War. Players have also claimed to have found a first look at the map.
However, whether a new map will actually come remains to be seen in the coming weeks. Also, whether gameplay will change due to the new CoD. But with their statements, the developers make it clear that a lot is coming to the Battle Royale in December, and it will be exciting to see how Warzone evolves by the end of the year.
