Players of Call of Duty have an exciting week ahead. Black Ops Cold War and the Battle Royale Warzone announce the big mid-season update for next week and are bringing a new weapon and double XP beforehand. MeinMMO shows you the details.
What’s happening in CoD? Season 2 has been running for exactly about a month and is approaching its “midpoint.” The Battle Pass timer expires on April 22, and now the developers have announced the new mid-season update. The CoD creators have also prepared some other announcements:
- A new weapon (crossbow) comes today
- Double XP this weekend
- Mid-season update next week
- Warzone with another ban wave
MeinMMO shows you the details of the announcements.
Cold War & Warzone: New crossbow today on March 24
The main developers for Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch, announced yesterday that the crossbow is now fully integrated into the game. The weapon was previously visible due to a bug in the game and could even be unlocked and purchased with a bundle – GameStar reported. The weapon will most likely arrive today evening, March 24, around 6 or 7 PM.
Players who had purchased the crossbow in the store during that time received their money back. If you already unlocked the crossbow during the phase, your progress is not lost – you continue from where you left off in the challenge, and if you completed 15 matches, you’ll be at 14 out of 15 at release.
How do I unlock the crossbow? You need to collect 3 ‘One Shot, One Kill’ medals in 15 different matches and use weapons without attachments. The best options are the sniper rifles Pellington and LW-3 Tundra. Here you can find a quickscoping guide if you want to give it a try.
Double XP for everything this weekend
When is double XP happening? The upcoming weekend features a significant Double XP weekend. You can level up all 3 progression pillars in Cold War & Warzone faster, and PlayStation players get the bonuses for an extra day:
- Double XP on weapons, levels, and Battle Pass
- Start PlayStation: Thursday, March 25 – 6 PM
- Regular start: Friday, March 26 – 6 PM
- Ends on Monday, March 29 – 6 PM
The event can be really worthwhile for you, as it finally provides bonuses on all three XP systems. So if you have levels to unlock in the Battle Pass, a weapon to level up, or want to progress further in the prestige system – make the most of the time.
Mid-Season Update – Zombies, new weapon and maps?
What can be expected from the mid-season update? Not much is yet known about the big update. The previous information is based on the roadmap that was published at the start of Season 2. Therefore, for Warzone & Cold War, one can expect:
- The new sniper rifle ZRG 20 mm
- New operator available for purchase
The new rifle could be exciting for both CoDs, but no details are available about the weapon yet. Large sniper rifles always have the potential to make a big impact in CoD. For example, the mobile sniper Kar 98k is among the most popular weapons in Warzone and is ranked 2nd.
What could come to Cold War? One thing is certain: “Outbreak” will receive another map (Sanatorium), along with new tasks, and the zombie mode will thus become larger and more diverse.
The roadmap also shows that the multiteam map “Golova” is coming to multiplayer. It is currently only available in Outbreak. There may also be additions to the small gunfight mode – the roadmap shows “Mansion” as a new map.
What could come to Warzone? In the battle royale, the story surrounding the zombies could develop further. Season 2 brought NPC zombies to the large Verdansk map, which have, however, only been moving around and not spreading so far. Leaks connect the “end of Verdansk” with the zombies and many players have high expectations for the upcoming events in Warzone. However, it cannot be said for sure whether there will actually be a spread or if the zombie story will continue in another way.
Warzone blocks thousands of players with a new ban wave
Shortly before the next major update, the main developers of Call of Duty: Warzone announced that another ban wave has blocked many thousands of accounts. They have again banned around 13,000 accounts identified by the CoD developers as cheaters.
The battle royale Warzone has been battling nasty cheaters since its release, and at one point it seemed that the fight was being lost. However, in the last weeks and months, the developers have become more active, promising real “anti-cheat updates” for the first time and regularly posting on Twitter when there is a major ban wave.
However, many players remain skeptical. The developers do not go into detail and reveal little about their so-called “updates.” The problem runs deep and there are still too many cheaters around to talk about a real improvement in the cheating problem in Warzone. Even pros get caught cheating. However, better communication raises hope. It remains to be seen whether they can fulfill it.
Season 2 goes into the next round and brings fresh air into Cold War and Warzone – new weapons, new maps, new zombie content. How satisfied are you so far with the two seasons of Cold War? Have your expectations been met? Feel free to write it in the comments.
