In Call of Duty: Warzone, players have come across a game-breaking weapon setup for the “FR 5.56” assault rifle. With a special attachment, the outdated weapon is now lethal with just one shot in Season 5. But not for long.
What is the deal with the broken weapon setup? With Season 5, some new weapons have come to CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone. However, even though the new AN-94 is a really strong choice among assault rifles in the current season, an old weapon that many might have already forgotten about is making waves currently.
It’s about the assault rifle with burst fire – FR 5.56. Recently, players discovered a game-breaking setup for this firearm that allows for easy one-shot kills. At distances of up to 15 meters, even enemies with full health and 3 armor plates can be put down with just one shot in Battle Royale.
What exactly makes the setup so strong? The weapon is quite decent on its own but is not among the currently best weapons in Warzone.
However, a specific setup makes the weapon the top choice for some players. If you equip the FR 5.56 with an optional shotgun attachment for the underbarrel, this weapon turns into a true monster at distances of up to 15 meters, killing with just one shot. But see for yourself:
While underbarrel shotguns can be equipped on numerous assault rifles, you typically need several shots to take down your opponent even at close range. However, that’s different with the FR 5.56 – the reason for this remains unknown. With the appropriate attachment, the weapon is as effective as a precise shot from a sniper rifle or a well-placed rocket – only that it can be used multiple times without reloading and at shorter distances.
How are players reacting? Currently, this setup is making the rounds on Reddit and social media, spreading quickly there.
Consequently, you encounter it more and more often in the Warzone. Because no other weapon is currently as effective. So if you’re currently battling in BR, you should be especially cautious during duels. Many players are using it – from prominent streamers to veterans to fresh recruits. And that is likely to remain the case (until the next patch).
However, shortly after the discovery of the setup, many questioned whether it was intended. For instance, the well-known CoD expert TheXclusiveAce said: “I don’t think it was intended in any way.” Ace assumed it was a bug and that the FR 5.56 may have received a hidden range buff with Season 5, which then also applied to the underbarrel weapon.
And as it turns out, he wasn’t entirely wrong, and there is indeed a problem with the FR 5.56. By the way, he has dealt extensively with the topic:

What the developers say: Meanwhile, the devs at Infinity Ward have also responded to this setup. They announced on Twitter that they’ve identified a problem with the FR 5.56 and are working on a fix.
However, they did not specify when exactly the fix would come – whether perhaps even with the next update tonight. They will share more details with fans and players as soon as they have them. Until then, they thank everyone for their patience.
So it shouldn’t be too long before this overpowered, broken setup disappears from the Warzone and the previous status quo is restored. But until then, you now know what to watch out for and what to expect.
It is also interesting to see where the 4th new weapon of Season 5 will fit in. We at least already know what it will be: Leak and roadmap for CoD MW & Warzone show: The next new weapon will be an MG
