The new Season 3 brings a map update for Verdansk, which changes the map in several places and aims to provide a fresh experience in Call of Duty: Warzone. Currently, an event is running in the transition to the new map, and Warzone is in a state of emergency. Tonight, “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 2” starts, and here you will find all the important info about it:
- Live event time and info on the countdown in the game
- Live ticker for the event, server status, and queues

- April 21: Original announcement before the event
Previous course in brief: On April 21 at 9 PM, the event mode “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1” went online. Dead players turned into zombies, and after about 10 minutes, the match ended. After that, a cutscene showed how Verdansk is hit by a nuclear bomb.
Since the end of the first phase, only modes on Rebirth Island are online, and players discovered puzzles and changes on the small Warzone map. A countdown is currently running down in the game that expires at 9 PM.

Update 10:05 PM: The event has expired, the mode is gone – the new map Verdansk ’84 is live. A new playlist is available, and the event “Hunt for Adler” is online. Server issues continue. You can check the current status here (via support.activision.com) – currently, only an investigation is underway for Cold War.

- Battle Royale – All team sizes
- Verdansk Resurgence 3-man
- Rebirth Island Resurgence 4-man
- Plunder 4-man
Update 9:35 PM: Unfortunately, Warzone is experiencing server issues again and long queues. Activision support has already addressed this on Twitter:
Update 9:30 PM: In the event mode, 40 people start and attempt to trigger the detonator for the nuclear bomb to attack Verdansk. After the round ends on Rebirth Island, another cutscene about the destruction of the city starts:
Immediately after the cutscene, another match starts – on the new version of the map.
Update 9:20 PM: There is a separate game mode. “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 2” is now live and takes place on Rebirth Island. Additionally, Call of Duty released another trailer on Twitter for Verdansk ’84:
Update – 9:05 PM: Apparently, there is no separate event mode, but everything is taking place on Rebirth Island. A new blog post invites you to explore the island.
Update – 8:05 PM: Just under an hour until it starts.
If you want to be safe in the game at the start, you should log in a bit earlier to avoid server problems. Go to the lobby screen by 8:45 PM at the latest – yesterday, you could easily get in a quarter of an hour before the start.
Update – 5:05 PM: The trailer for the new Warzone map has now been released:
CoD Warzone: Live Event – Time, Countdown, and Information
The 4th and final phase starts at 9 PM tonight (April 22) and runs until approximately 10 PM. A countdown in the game runs exactly at 9 PM.
Due to server issues, the first event mode “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1” was online for nearly an hour longer. If there are problems today again, an extension is possible.
The event runs for a total of 25 hours, and Warzone has no classic Battle Royale available during this time. You can only play on Rebirth Island at the moment:
- Current playlist
- Rebirth Resurgence 4-man at night
- Rebirth Mini Royale 2-man at night
- Rebirth King Slayer at night
However, there is something new to discover on the island. Some locations have been changed, and a large Easter egg shows first images of the new map. More about the Easter egg can be found with the English-speaking YouTuber “Geeky Pastimes,” who solved the complicated puzzle together with other players (via YouTube).
Info about the new map
Meanwhile, the picture of the new map is becoming clearer. It has been revealed that selected content creators were able to take a look at the map, and the new Easter egg on Rebirth Island also shows images of the new Verdansk. Due to a glitch, players managed to sneak onto the new map through private matches:

- Private match on the new map (in English)
The changes to the map are quite extensive. However, there are also some areas that have hardly changed.
Expired: Ticker from the start of the event to the third event phase
Update April 22: We are now in the third event phase, which runs until 9 PM tonight. The third phase, however, brought no new modes – only a countdown that counts down the time until 9 PM and a new lobby screen. In addition, players found some puzzles on Rebirth Island.
In the meantime, the Season Update 1.36 for Warzone with many weapon changes was released. Additionally, the new Battle Pass for Season 3 has been unlocked.
Open the spoiler box if you want to know what happened in the event mode “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1”:
Course of events: The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1
The mode starts like a normal Battle Royale, but when you go completely down, you turn into a zombie. More and more players become zombies, the circle closes, and the survivors must try to escape by helicopter at the end. However, there is no way out, and even players who reach the evacuation point cannot escape.
There are always warnings in between, and the zombie threat increases. At the very end, a cutscene shows how the lost Verdansk is destroyed by a nuke. As a conclusion to the event mode, you receive a calling card.

Update – 12:50 AM: The event mode “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1” is no longer available.
Update – 11:30 PM: There was an update regarding the server issues at “support.activision.com“: “The incident is still open, and we are working to restore online services as quickly as possible.”
The modes on Rebirth Island show the message “15 minutes after the destruction of Verdansk” at the start of matches, and all play at night. Additionally, there have apparently been some changes to the map, including a new location:
Update – 11:05 PM: The first period of the event has expired, but the event mode “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1” is still online. If you haven’t been able to get into the game due to server issues, you can still play the mode.
However, more modes are now available again – all three on Rebirth Island. The next stage of the event kicks off tomorrow morning at 6 AM with the season start.
Update – 10:15 PM: The server issues with Warzone persist. You can check the current status here (via support.activision.com). There are also disruptions to the servers with Cold War (via Twitter). The issue is still under investigation.
Update – 9:30 PM: Many players are currently unable to access the Warzone servers. Activision has confirmed on Twitter that they are working on it:
Update – 9:05 PM: The event mode is live. You can now play “The Destruction of Verdansk – Part 1”. All other modes are disabled.
Original announcement before the event
What is currently known? Through the first roadmap of Season 3, it is now clear that Call of Duty: Warzone will receive a map update for Verdansk with the new season, and the city is apparently set back to the 1980s. The first image of the new map was even seen ingame. However, details are difficult to discern:
Everything also indicates that the transition from the old to the new map is connected with a live event. Currently, the zombie story in Verdansk is at its peak and the battle against the undead plague has been hinted at for months with a nuclear device. Currently, large cruise missiles are even flying over the city, and a warning is asking players in every match to seek shelter from a potential attack.
Warzone also showed a doomsday date with the words “the end is near”. The date is today, April 21 at 9 PM. However, there are now even four dates that probably relate to the destruction of Verdansk:
The time information in the CoD tweet in German time:
- First date
- April 21 from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- Lasts 2 hours
- Second date
- April 21 – 22 from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- Lasts 7 hours
- Third date
- April 22 from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Lasts 15 hours
- Fourth date
- April 22 from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Lasts 1 hour
- Total duration: 25 hours
If you want to be part of it, then log into Warzone tonight at 9 PM. But don’t start a game directly. If it goes like it did during the reveal of Cold War in Warzone, there will be a “list update” at 9 PM, and then the event mode will be available.
What is currently unknown? It is still unknown how it will proceed specifically. The fact that the dates run consecutively without a break suggests a multi-stage event. There have also been leaks from data miners pointing in that direction (via Twitter). It is said in the data: “Congratulations on completing ‘The Destruction of Verdansk Part 1!'”. There will likely be a cosmetic reward for participating.
Not only the course is still unclear, but also the content of the event. During the reveal of Cold War, a special game mode was run that sent you through a scripted adventure. There were short video inserts during the match, many in-game displays were obscured by a bar like in secret recordings, and at the end, players went towards the stadium. After completing the tasks, the match ended, and all participants saw the first trailer of Black Ops Cold War.
However, this scripted game mode was only online for a maximum of 2 hours at a time and also replaced the normal Battle Royale during this time. This time, the specified times are significantly longer, and the third date is even set for 15 hours. It is also possible that it is a mix of special game modes and scripted events:
- First date: Event with script
- Second date: Special game mode
- Third date: Special game mode
- Fourth date: Event with script
It is still unknown how much the map actually changes. For a long time, players and leakers assumed that there would be a completely new map at the season start. However, since only a “map update” is mentioned, fewer and fewer people believe in a complete overhaul. A leaked commercial and initial data findings suggest significant changes to the locations:
- Stadium
- Damn
- Harbour
- Superstore
However, it cannot be stated with certainty whether there will be more changes or if the map adjustments will be resolved in another way.
What about the “Hunt for Adler” event? According to the blog entry about Season 3 (via callofduty.com), it is a joint event for Warzone and Cold War, similar to the Outbreak event at the start of Season 2. In the story of Call of Duty, Adler was captured by the evil operator Stitch and taken to Verdansk in the “Cold War” era and held captive in the Gulag.
You can complete gameplay challenges in Warzone and Cold War during the event to earn special cosmetics. If you complete all tasks, you will receive an exclusive Adler skin. Data miners also believe they already know which skin that is:
Since the event is hosted together with Cold War and will probably run for over 2 weeks, it likely doesn’t directly relate to the destruction of Verdansk. It is more like the continuation of the story after the transition from the modern Verdansk to the new version of the Cold War.
Warzone is finally back in action and offers its players a new experience. Many Warzone players found Season 2 boring, as there were hardly any innovations in gameplay, and even the weapon meta remained stubbornly monotonous throughout the period.
Are you stopping by the event today? What are your expectations for a new map? Let us know in the comments on MeinMMO.
