With the start of Season 3, Call of Duty: Warzone removed the Trios mode and instead brought in Quads – and that doesn’t sit well with everyone. But it looks like an alternative could be coming soon.
What is this alternative about? It seems that the Duos format may soon be introduced in Call of Duty: Warzone, the Battle Royale of CoD: Modern Warfare.
After the Update 1.19 kicked off the new season, the official Call of Duty site was updated to reflect the Season 3. Here, the new modes – Quads and Duos – were displayed. But that was probably a bit premature. Shortly after, every hint of a Duo mode was removed again.
Moreover, it also stated there that more modes are to come throughout the newly launched Season 3.
Many players now assume that Duos could soon be the next format introduced in Warzone.
That’s why there is trouble with Quads: Quads came as a new mode with the start of Season 3 for Warzone. However, not as an additional format, but as a replacement for Trios. Besides Plunder, players can currently only jump into the Battle Royale Solo or in a 4-person team. And that’s not sitting well with many.
Players would have preferred to see Quads brought in addition to Solo and Trios and other modes, not as a replacement. Many teams complain that Warzone has now become less attractive for them with Quads and the removal of Trios.
Because many are apparently playing as a duo or trio. While in Trios one could still compete as a complete team, fill the squad through player search, or at least survive as a duo, everything has become more difficult and cumbersome with Quads.
If you are playing as a duo, you are essentially left with no choice but to fill the squad. However, that doesn’t always work, and being two against four-person teams is essentially no chance (even three will find it tough).
And even if it works – with 2 randoms, you have virtually no chance against well-coordinated teams. Because random teammates often don’t use a microphone and don’t place any real value on teamwork – so the criticism of numerous fans. This way, the mode is not really fun.
In short: With only Quads and Solo, Warzone has now lost appeal for many players – especially for teams. Squads of 2 or 3 players are left out in the cold.
Is Duos an alternative? Many are therefore calling for at least introducing Duos as a format. That would be better and more sensible than Quads.
This way, smaller teams could fare better, and even if filling the squad doesn’t work, they would still have reasonably good chances as a lone wolf. And setting out in Duos with a buddy is preferred by numerous players over struggling through Quads or dealing with 2 randoms.
Overall, however, the community is demanding more variety. Players would prefer to have more modes to choose from rather than just be forced to endure temporally limited, rigid formats – even if they do not suit them. Many do not understand what speaks against running Solo, Duos, Trios, and Quads in parallel. This way, all interest groups would essentially be covered.
What else does Warzone have to offer in Season 3? After the start of Season 3 and the introduction of Quads, more content is expected to follow. So far, only the mode Scopes & Scatter Guns (only shotguns and sniper rifles) and now Duos have been officially mentioned.
However, according to data mining, even more is expected for Season 3:
- Battle Royale High Action, where the deadly gas circle moves much faster.
- Battle Royale One Shot. Headshots are fatal. No loadout drops.
- Realism Battle Royale: Warzone with realism rules, meaning no HUD and increased headshot damage.
- Hardcore Battle Royale: Warzone in hardcore format: weapons are much deadlier, no HUD, friendly fire active.
Additionally, the developers recently addressed how they want to bring fresh air to the Battle Royale in Season 3.
What do you think? Would Duos be a better alternative to Quads? Should Warzone make all modes permanently available? Or are you happy with Quads?
