Next Thursday, on September 9th, “Season 5 Reloaded” kicks off in Call of Duty: Warzone. The current Season 5 will then step it up and bring new content to the Battle Royale. A live event will start, and there will also be two new modes. MeinMMO has the details and shows the innovations from Black Ops Cold War.
What’s going on? When a new season starts in Call of Duty, you don’t get the whole content cake at once. The new content comes in bites or surges. A further surge is imminent, as the new Mid-Season 5 has now been officially announced. The highlights for Warzone:
- New, hard Battle Royale with stricter rules – Iron Trails ’84
- A new Team Deathmatch – Clash
- Live event “The Numbers”

CoD Warzone introduces Iron Trails ’84 and Clash as new modes
What are these new modes? To keep you entertained in Battle Royale, the developers at Raven Software have come up with 2 new modes. First, there’s “Iron Trails ’84”, a Battle Royale with extra tough rules, and the Deathmatch mode “Clash”.
Game Mode Iron Trails
What are the Iron Trails? The Warzone creators don’t want to reveal 100% of what’s going on just yet. The mode will also only be coming at some point during the season. But basically, it’s a Battle Royale with stricter rules:
- Health and Regeneration
- The health is higher than in the regular BR, but the regeneration rate has also changed. According to the developers, this changes a lot about the gameplay, as your gear and weapons will have different effects than you are used to.
- Loadouts
- There will be no free loadout drops during a match, you will always have to buy them.
- Gulag
- No shotguns, no akimbo and very little tactical equipment. The Gulag will focus on the gunfight between 2 players. If you win the duel, you return to the game with the weapons from the Gulag.
Afterward, the developers mention that you can also expect changes in Verdansk and that other aspects of the game have been slightly modified. They refer to the fact that more information will follow later.
For a victory in Iron Trails, you will receive a special calling card – but only for the win.
Game Mode Clash
What is Clash? The mode was already announced at the start of Season 5 and is coming on the very first day of the Mid-Season. Similar to Warzone’s “Rumble”, 2 teams of 50 players each will battle it out. The goal is to collect 500 points – either through contracts or of course kills.
A random area in Verdansk will be selected as the combat zone, and you can start the matches with your Warzone loadouts. In the blog regarding the Mid-Season, the developers even emphasize that the mode is a great way to level up weapons or unlock missing camos for your weapons.
Unlike in Rumble, more mechanics from the regular Battle Royale are activated:
- Cash
- Buy Stations
- Ping System
- Armor Plates
- Vehicles
This is intended to provide a new deathmatch experience for Warzone and represents the next evolution in 50v50 battles in Verdansk.
The Numbers event starts on September 21
When does it start? Warzone and Cold War will simultaneously launch the new Numbers event on September 21.
What kind of event is it? You can earn a total of 18 themed cosmetics in both CoDs by completing tasks.
In Warzone, the new event is related to the mobile transmission stations. These are the trucks with antennas that have appeared in various locations since the start of the season.
For each “unique” transmission station, you will receive a sticker or an emblem or another cosmetic, as well as some experience points and cash for your current match. By “unique”, they probably mean the different locations where the transmission stations can appear.
In Cold War, you can complete 9 gameplay tasks related to the new content of Mid-Season 5.

Cold War brings a bit of everything
What’s new in Cold War? The current premium title shows a solid amount of new content on the roadmap. There are:
- Classic mode “Demolition” – Reminiscent of Search & Destroy, but everyone has a bomb
- Zoo as a 6v6 map – Already appeared in Outbreak and now in the game as a 6v6
- Armada as an Outbreak map: The release map Armada will be part of Outbreak
- Rampage Inducer for Zombies: A new challenge in round-based modes
- Survival as a new Outbreak mode
Additionally, a new melee weapon will be introduced: Sai forks. When these sharp weapons will arrive is still unclear. However, you can unlock a variant of them through the Numbers event.
Warzone and Cold War are entering the next joint round, of which there won’t be too many more. After the Mid-Season, Season 6, and thus the last season for Cold War will probably be on the horizon in early October. Warzone will also then move away from the Cold War and go further back. The new CoD Vanguard takes place in World War II and will bring Warzone along.
