This year, horror fans in CoD Warzone and CoD Cold War will get their money’s worth again. The new Halloween event “The Haunting 2021” has started and brings a lot of new content to the game. MeinMMO summarizes everything about the event for you.

What kind of event is this? For Halloween, many major shooters traditionally hold special events in their games. CoD Warzone and Cold War are also participating.
After the successful event last year, there is a new Halloween event in 2021 with The Haunting, just before the release of CoD Vanguard on November 5.
This time, horror movies come into play in CoD, and with the event, there are new bundles related to horror classics like Scream or the sci-fi film Donnie Darko.
When does it start? The Haunting 2021 starts on the evening of October 19 – it kicks off at 7 PM. Until November 2, it will haunt in Warzone. Here you can watch the trailer for the event:
What else did Update 1.44 bring? The event came with a small update, which, however, takes a long time to install on consoles. Plan a little time for the update. In addition to the Halloween event, the new assault rifle Grav has been buffed (less recoil) and there were some bug fixes. CoD Warzone & Cold War – Halloween event brings new bundles, skins, modes and more
This is how the event works: In CoD Warzone, there is a new mode that fits the Halloween theme. In Cold War, there is even a new map and three new modes.
Moreover, there are, as always, cross-game content:
- New weapon from Season 6
- The new submachine gun LAPA can be unlocked
- Event rewards
- New challenges that reward you with 19 suitable Halloween items at the end.
- These also include blueprints
- Halloween bundles for the in-game shop
- Operator Ghostface from the horror classic Scream
- Operator Frank the Rabbit from Donnie Darko
- Halloween skins for other operators like Portnova, who becomes the Necro Queen
In addition, there are, as always, content that is only found in Warzone or Cold War.

New weapons for Halloween – LAPA submachine gun and melee weapon
What kind of weapon is this? This submachine gun is actually one of the weapons that you can only unlock with the upcoming Season 6.
Thanks to the Halloween event, you can now achieve this earlier. It is apparently a slow-firing submachine gun that is said to be strong even at greater distances.
How do you unlock it? You need to complete all 18 challenges in Cold War and Warzone.
In addition to the LAPA, the weapon Hammer and Sickle will also be available during the event. This is a two-handed weapon that can be unlocked on November 2 in a special challenge.
Halloween event 2021 in CoD Warzone
This is what to expect in CoD Warzone: In Warzone, there is a new mode called Ghosts of Verdansk that is active for the duration of the event. It is reminiscent of the Zombie Royale from the Halloween event last year.
You have to defend yourself against human and supernatural enemies on the map. You will have to deal with a new problem: your fear.
How does it work? Your fear value starts at 0 at the beginning of a match – 100 is the maximum. The value increases through various factors. For example, if you get hit, teammates die, or you simply camp somewhere, the value increases.
If you die, you do not go to the Gulag. Instead, you become a ghost. You will no longer have weapons but gain supernatural powers:
- Super Jump: As a ghost, you have no body, thus no weight. You can jump really high and also float down from any height
- Teleport: You can teleport short distances, even through enemy players. The ability has a short cooldown
- Spectral Blast: An area attack that can slow down enemy operators and vehicles
If you manage to eliminate three players as a ghost, you can revive yourself with those three souls.
Halloween event 2021 in CoD Cold War
This is what to expect in CoD Cold War: The Nuke Town map gets a new appearance for the Halloween event and is available for the event as “Nuke Town Halloween”.
In addition, there are three new modes:
- Infected
- 18 operators fight against each other in two teams. One team consists of zombies: They must infect the other team. If the timer runs out, the human team wins
- Prop Hunt Halloween
- You can disguise as a pumpkin, skull, or a heap of other objects and must hide from the enemy hunters
- Scream Deathmatch
- As the name suggests: In this mode, the killer Ghostface from Scream is after you. Two players take on the role of the operators, while the others have to hide from him unarmed. Be aware that the survivors can scream during a match, potentially revealing their hiding spot
Zombies receives a new Outbreak variant
This is what to expect in the zombie mode: For Halloween, there is a special variant for Outbreak. In Hallow’s Eve Outbreak, you have to survive long enough. After 10 minutes, you can be airlifted out at one of two points on the map.
Additionally, there is a new world event where a monster appears on the map that can take you out in one strike. So be careful.
Moreover, there are now so-called Scare Packages that spawn every five rounds. They contain valuable items such as ammo mods, wonder weapons, support weapons, armor, and more. But the crates have a catch, so be careful.
The event ends shortly before the official release of CoD Vanguard. There, there is also a zombie mode. There you save Europe from an army of armored Nazi zombies.
