Call of Duty: Warzone 2 regularly brings updates with new content and balance adjustments. In a rather small update on November 22, the armor-piercing ammunition was nerfed – it no longer breaks armor. What the ammunition can do, we show you on MeinMMO.
What’s going on? Call of Duty has been focusing on a service game for a few years now – free content keeps coming into the game, updates fix problems or change the balancing.
This happened on the evening of 11/22/22 – a small update fixed over 40 bugs and adjustments were also made to the balancing. An entry in the patch notes caused some confusion:
- Armor-Piercing Ammunition
- Damage multiplier against armored opponents removed
Armor-piercing ammunition no longer does extra damage against … armored opponents? What sounds strange is actually quite logical – but why was there the nerf and what do the bullets still bring? MeinMMO has answers.

Why was the ammunition nerfed? The officials at the developer studios Raven Software and Infinity Ward do not give a concrete answer to that.
However, the bullets may have disrupted the planned balancing. In the DMZ mode, there are plenty of armored NPC opponents and other players usually start with armor.
So far, the damage boost against armored opponents has not been considered by players in the weapon meta of Warzone 2 – developers may have proactively removed the bonuses here.
So what are the bullets good for? The CoD news account “CharlieIntel” posted information about the nerf on Twitter with the question: “What exactly does armor-piercing ammunition do now?” CoD expert “TheXclusiveAce” spoke up, having already conducted the corresponding tests:
- Damage against vehicles & killstreaks increased by about 40%
- Bullet penetration level increased
- Bullet velocity decreased by about 7.5%
The armor-piercing ammunition primarily causes more damage against vehicles in Warzone 2 – in the multiplayer of CoD MW2, killstreaks like the UAV take significantly more damage from bullets of the weapon with the attachment.
The penetration level determines which materials the bullets can penetrate. Assault rifles thus gain the ability to shoot through covers that previously blocked the bullets.
Call of Duty offers an incredible number of multipliers, weapon values, recoil types, and attachment bonuses that make it hard to keep track. With the new weapon tuning, the system has become significantly more complicated.
