Sniper weapons do not meet the expectations of many players in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Since the release, there has been a discussion about whether the large weapons should take out enemies with a headshot or not.
Sniper rifles, or simply “snipers,” are considered “high risk, high reward” weapons in shooter games. Often, a headshot is enough for a kill, but there are several disadvantages:
- Poor movement
- Long aiming times
- Scope reflection reveals position
- No easy hits
But what if the last point is removed? What if sniper weapons are very easy to use? How do you create fair balancing? This is where Call of Duty: Warzone 2 currently stands.
Sniping can be quickly learned even by inexperienced players. Good hits, including headshots, are especially easy against stationary targets.
To compensate for this, sniper weapons lose their one-shot kill ability with headshots if the opponent has all three armor plates equipped. However, for many players, this is not a good solution, and since release, there has been a discussion about whether snipers need one-shot headshots in all cases or not.
One-Shot Headshot? Community with a Clear Statement
What are the opinions on this? In the active CoD community that shares its opinions on social media, there is quite a clear tendency. A survey from the Warzone news account “@ModernWarzone” on Twitter is a striking example of this:
With nearly 43,000 votes, over 86% believe that headshots with heavy sniper weapons should take out opponents with full armor as well. However, the discussion under the survey appears to be more nuanced – many are satisfied with the current system.
Warzone expert “TrueGameData” also expresses his opinion. He also desires one-shot headshots – but only at a distance of a maximum of 60 meters. For him, the fact counts that automatic weapons are not as easy to control at range as they were in Warzone 1.
There is currently a hotly debated thread on Reddit as well. Within 24 hours, the topic gathered over 1,000 comments. The majority desires the one-shot headshot, but there are also fans of the current system.
The most popular comment with 1,900 upvotes: “I snipe a dude, headshot, not down. He puts in new plates, I headshot him again, not down. How is that fun?”.
Under the comment, a lively discussion ensues about how even the NPCs in the game survive aimed headshots with their helmets.
Helmets are also another keyword. Because there are indeed some users in the thread who find the current system quite reasonable. But they would rather have a helmet – equipment that protects against one-shot headshots, rather than just regulating it through armor plates.
Further along, clear statements that fully support the current system can also be found. “jackhwds” explains, for example:
They should definitely stick with it. Two-shot kills create a skill gap, which is a good thing. Moreover, it prevents quickscoping from becoming the meta. It’s not difficult to land a follow-up hit on someone running across open fields.
If we have snipers again that are as strong as in Verdansk, then get ready to see a glimmer on every roof.
The only way to bring one-shot headshots into the game is to make sniper weapons more realistic. They would then need seconds to aim, have strong “idle sway,” and could only hit well if they hold their breath.
Personally, I say: Forget one-shot kills. The current skill gap with sniper weapons is great.
The discussions show how broad the spectrum of opinions on sniper weapons in Warzone 2 is. Even though the voting majority would prefer one-shot headshots in the game, there are many players and arguments against it.
