In online games, “cheats” generally refer to aids that provide a significant advantage over opponents. Such aids are prohibited, but what is actually considered a “cheat” in Call of Duty: Warzone 2? And which aids are allowed?
When talking about “cheating” in online shooters, people often think of wallhacks, aimbots, or god modes. After all, “cheating” is English and translates to “deceiving”.
However, there are not just software cheats with their nasty programs. Some tricks can be done with hardware as well, and there are special devices that can assist with aiming. A little trick can sometimes be allowed.
In the video, you will find some tips on leveling weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone 2:
CoD Warzone 2: Cheats – What is allowed and what is not?
What aids are allowed? The range is narrow but noticeable. In the end, it’s a matter of money because the right technology allows for better performance:
- Strong technology allows for better frame rates (PCvsPS4vsPS5)
- Mouse / keyboard / pro controllers
- Add-ons for input devices (attachments for sticks etc.)
- Good headset for footsteps
Here, one could say that “the human” is the limit. You should not build machines that enhance your performance, for example, by pressing a button quickly for you. However, you can place a game map on your desk or upgrade your technology.
It is allowed to use a better mouse or a specialized controller. I swear by the SCUF Reflex FPS, for example. The rear triggers are designed like mouse buttons. This saves me milliseconds when firing.
Furthermore, many “tricks” that would actually be exploits are generally not considered cheats in Call of Duty. For years, slide-canceling was a popular technique, which was actually a glitch in the game. If an exploit does not “guarantee a win”, then you don’t have to worry about a ban.
What aids are prohibited? Call of Duty is quite strict regarding this. Unlike many MMORPGs like WoW or Elder Scrolls Online, you should already be cautious with smaller mods that access any kind of game data.
Basically, there are two reasons why you can get banned:
- Cheats detected by anti-cheat
- Suspicious gameplay statistics / many reports
RICOCHET is the anti-cheat program of Call of Duty and is constantly hunting for cheaters. The security team once reported that cheaters can usually play an average of 5 matches before the banhammer strikes.
Whether it’s software cheats running on the PC or hardware cheats that assist in aiming – it’s all prohibited. Software cheaters usually receive an immediate ban. Hardware cheaters are only warned when such devices are detected.
Since cheaters continue to evolve, RICOCHET cannot detect everything on the market. For such cases, there is still a ban based on suspicious statistics and the reporting system in the game. Such bans often lead to a shadow ban – check here for more info.

The issues with hardware cheaters were considered unsolvable for many years. But in 2023, there are already some major online shooters that can detect such devices. CoD is now among them: Finally, Call of Duty’s anti-cheat detects the biggest cheating plague – a good day for all online shooters.
