More and more famous names are speaking out on Twitter and Co. about Call of Duty Warzone. Activision has apparently given selected streamers and YouTubers an early look at Warzone 2. MeinMMO tells you what we already know.
The Battle Royale CoD Warzone seems to be getting a successor soon. At least that’s the information currently circulating in the CoD community on Twitter. Well-known streamers, YouTubers, and influencers have apparently been able to see Warzone 2 in advance.
This apparently confirms the reports that a successor to the Battle Royale is in development with Warzone 2. With this new game, persistent problems that cannot be improved technically are to be bypassed. Warzone 2 is thus intended to provide a fresh start for the game on new and better hardware.
The information that was apparently shown is supposed to be under embargo. Nevertheless, some information has already leaked out. MeinMMO summarizes it here for you.
CoD Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are set to come in 2022
After the embargo, CoD Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 were officially announced through the influencers. This was to be expected after the leaks. However, there are still very few concrete details aside from that.
The details announced by the influencers have now also been confirmed by the official Twitter account of Call of Duty:
The following is known:
- The successors to Modern Warfare and Warzone are being developed by Infinity Ward.
- Both games will receive a new engine.
- Both games do not have an official name yet, but are referred to by the influencers as Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.
- Both games are being developed together from the ground up.
- Warzone will be a “massive evolution of Battle Royale.”
- A new sandbox mode is expected. This mode will apparently be similar to Escape from Tarkov (via Twitter)
- Warzone 1 will not receive a FoV slider for consoles (via Twitter)
- A ranked mode could also be coming with Warzone 2.
- Statements from the developers suggest that at least Warzone 2 may also release on PS4 and Xbox One. The majority of Warzone players are still playing the Battle Royale on last-gen consoles. (via Twitter)
The management of Call of Duty has reportedly admitted that Warzone is currently in a catastrophic state. According to Tom Henderson, they allegedly stated verbatim (via Twitter):
We messed up. We broke it. We’re not happy with it. No excuses.
More specific details are not known at the current time. There is no logo or trailer for the announced games. The influencers have also not seen a logo or gameplay (via Twitter).

What is known? Activision has confirmed Warzone 2 in a call with influencers. The well-known insider Tom Henderson says this on Twitter.
More details about Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are circulating on social media. However, since these have not been officially confirmed yet, you should take all of them with caution:
- Warzone 2 is said to have been “re-developed from scratch due to issues with the original Warzone.” These problems apparently stem from the integration with CoD Black Ops Cold War (via Twitter).
- Consoles are expected to finally get FoV settings with Warzone 2, which are said to reach up to 120° FoV. The community is urgently wishing for this feature for the current Warzone. However, due to technical limitations, this can only be realized with a successor (via Twitter).
- It is highly likely that Warzone 2 will also have a next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Warzone 2 is supposed to be released with CoD Modern Warfare 2. However, it is unclear whether this will happen upon the release of Modern Warfare 2, or like with Warzone 1, sometime after the release of the ‘main CoD’ (via Twitter). Therefore, it is currently uncertain whether the release of Warzone 2 will happen in 2022 or only in 2023.
- There are unconfirmed hints that Infinity Ward might be responsible for Warzone 2. A tweet from the developer seems to respond positively to the reactions of the influencers (via Twitter).
- PS5 and Switch owners can breathe a sigh of relief: Despite Microsoft’s spectacular purchase of Activision Blizzard, the CoD games are expected to continue to be released on PlayStation, and possibly on Nintendo Switch.
