Call of Duty: Warzone was released in 2020 as an extension to CoD MW 2019 and created a real CoD hype. Never before had the franchise had so many players on consoles and PC.
Logical step: a sequel – Warzone 2.0 will be released on November 16 along with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2.
However, the new Warzone will do things quite differently. What you need to know about the innovations and how the release and download look like, we will show you here in a quick overview.
CoD Warzone 2.0: Release, Time & Download
When does Warzone 2.0 start? On November 16 at 5 PM it started.
Is Warzone 2.0 free? The new battle royale is again free to play.
What size is the download? Currently, you only need to download a little. If you haven’t downloaded MW2, the following download sizes apply on the platforms:
- PlayStation: approx. 47 GB
- Xbox: approx. 46 GB
- Steam: approx. 25 GB
- Battle.net: approx. 20 GB
How does it work with CoD MW2? Warzone 2.0 is an extension to Modern Warfare 2 and you start the game via the MW2 launcher – just like in Warzone 1. You can then choose which parts of the game you want to download to your drive and which ones you don’t.
Moreover, the progression systems of the two CoDs are linked again. You level up your account, weapons, and the battle pass in both games. Later, Warzone: Mobile will also join.
CoD Warzone 2.0: Gameplay & Map Al Mazrah
What kind of game is Warzone? Warzone uses the familiar battle royale principle and drops you with over 100 players on a large map. The play area shrinks over time until there is a big finale – only the last surviving team wins.
What else does it offer? Besides the battle royale, there is a DMZ mode. With this, CoD enters the extraction shooter market and attempts a gameplay principle similar to Escape from Tarkov.
You will be dropped on a map, fight against players and NPCs, and then have yourself extracted – if you have survived. Find out here if the mode is worth it for you.
What does the map look like? The new map is called Al Mazrah and offers a desert setting:
CoD Warzone 2.0: Changes/Innovations from the old Warzone
What changes compared to the first Warzone? Due to the revised engine, there are already fundamental changes – Warzone 2.0 plays like Modern Warfare 2. But aside from that, there are several adjustments in the mechanics:
- Different loadout drops
- Own weapons via buy stations
- No perks at the start
- New coop gulag
- Revised play area circle mechanics
- Proximity chat
- MW2 movement
- More NPCs
- Water and vehicles
What about my cosmetics and Warzone 1? Warzone 2.0 starts with a completely empty inventory. All cosmetics from Warzone 1 also remain there. The old Warzone goes offline for 12 days after the release of Warzone 2 and then comes back as Warzone: Caldera.
