Call of Duty: Vanguard brings good news to its fans. The ranking mode, already popular in Cold War, is set to make its debut in the sequel, Vanguard. Here on MeinMMO, find out everything we know so far about this popular mode.
What is a ranking mode? For fans of competitive shooters, rankings are an essential part of the gameplay. Through successes in the game, players ascend in ranks and ranking divisions until they compete as top gamers in the highest league against worthy opponents.
So those who enjoy competition and measurable gameplay statistics love rankings, and since February 2021, CoD Cold War finally has such a mode. But what about Vanguard? According to the developers, a ranking mode is also to be implemented here, although not at release.

When will the ranking come? In a tweet from the Cold War developers at Treyarch, the ranking mode for Call of Duty: Vanguard was indeed announced.
They intend to collaborate with the Vanguard studio Sledgehammer Games and implement a detailed Ranked mode for Vanguard sometime in 2022.
The developers did not specify exactly when in 2022 Ranked will arrive. Based on the timing of when Cold War got its Ranked mode, it could take approximately three months before the mode is introduced.
How does Ranked work? The developers have yet to provide concrete information about Ranked Play, but it seems they are putting in particular effort with this mode. It is said to feature the following:
- Skill divisions, probably from bronze upwards
- Visible skill ratings instead of cryptic, invisible ratings
- Rewards for achieving certain levels
The developers plan to provide more information at a later date.
What are the fans’ reactions? As expected, this news excites CoD fans. Rankings are simply very popular among competitive players. Fans expressed their enthusiasm on Twitter, sharing their anticipation for the new system, but there is also criticism.
I feel this will be the best ranking mode that CoD has ever seen, with so many different studios involved this way.

However, there are also players who, despite all their love for Ranked, would like to get rid of the old nuisance of Skill-Based Matchmaking.
Okay, if you have a real ranking mode with all the bells and whistles, then let’s remove SBMM from public matches. There is absolutely NO reason to crank SBMM up as it has been over the last 2 years. I understand wanting to protect less experienced and new players, but come on, SBMM is garbage.

Due to SBMM, regular casual rounds without Ranked would also be very stressful, as the system assigns equal opponents to good players, forcing them to constantly “sweat”.
