Call of Duty: Vanguard is said by pro Scump to finally banish the controversial matchmaking feature SBMM from the game. The former world champion would like to smash noobs again, who can hardly defend themselves against him.
Who is it about? Seth “Scump” Abner is a famous CoD pro. He has been a world champion and has won numerous prizes in tournaments of the Call of Duty League (CDL). Scump is considered one of the best players in the game and is a formidable opponent. For example, Scump has killed the poor streamer TimTheTatman so long that he was just screaming and whining.
In a stream, however, it was Scump who complained about the skill-based matchmaking feature (SBMM) in the CoD games, and he would like to finally get rid of it in the upcoming CoD Vanguard.
Scump wants to remove SBMM for more “bot lobbies”
Why does Scump want SBMM to be removed? SBMM theoretically ensures that most opponents a player like Scump encounters are also fairly solid in CoD.
The chance is currently low that he encounters so-called “bot lobbies,” consisting of a mass of rather poor players.
But that’s exactly what the former world champion would like to have. Since the rounds in which he regularly plays are populated by good gamers, every round is hard work and he has to exert himself.
In the past, when SBMM was not as rigorously implemented in the game, there were so-called “pub stomp” rounds, in which Scump practically dominated everyone in the lobby without taking much damage. A round of such a notorious “88:0 pub stomp” from 2013 can be viewed here:
Videos of such absurd killing sprees remain some of the most popular videos of Scump, and he is repeatedly asked why he doesn’t do that again:
“It’s just not possible. You can’t just win 88:0 against players who are at the same level. It’s just not possible. People circumvent it [SBMM], they circumvent it, but I don’t do that. That’s the sad reality [of Call of Duty] because I know how much people loved the pub stomps, but that’s just not possible anymore.”
Scump just wants to let loose and smash noobs left and right without it taking him too much effort.
Will SBMM be removed in Vanguard? However, the chances of Scump’s wish being fulfilled and SBMM being eliminated with the release of Vanguard are low, as the developers want to stick to the feature.
However, Scump is not alone in his demand for the end of SBMM. Many players also vehemently demand the abolition of skill-based matchmaking in upcoming titles of the Call of Duty series. The topic is being hotly debated on Reddit, and various players have ideas about what could be done instead: “Remove SBMM and then bring Ranked – We don’t need both.”
