Call of Duty: Vanguard supports crossplay again, allowing for seamless gameplay between PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S. This means you can play Vanguard with all your friends, regardless of which platform they are playing on. MeinMMO shows you how to do it.
What is crossplay? Thanks to crossplay, you can play your games together with friends, regardless of the platform each person uses. So you can game as a PC player alongside those on Xbox or PlayStation – or vice versa.
Vanguard also supports crossplay as expected. Crossplay works here in all multiplayer modes and also in Zombies.

How to enable crossplay? Crossplay is already enabled by default. However, you can deactivate it in the settings or reactivate it there as well.
This is how you disable crossplay: Open the settings and go to the “Account & Network” section. Just above the first option, you can disable crossplay. This applies to all modes where crossplay would otherwise be active until you reactivate it.
With Vanguard, disabling it also works for the first time on PC and Xbox.
What are the downsides if I disable crossplay? If you disable crossplay, you can only play with friends who use the same platform. Matchmaking can also take longer this way. Without crossplay, lobbies are filled only with other players from the same online network (battle.net on PC, Playstation Network, or Xbox Network).
Cross-gen is always supported: This means that even without crossplay, PS4 and PS5 players can play together. This also applies to Xbox players on their last-gen or next-gen console.
You don’t have to take any special steps to play cross-gen with friends. Just use the party functions on PlayStation or Xbox as usual.
This is how you play with friends via crossplay: For this, you need an account at Activision (via callofduty.com). With this, you can invite your friends. Here’s how:
- You need to open the social menu from the multiplayer or zombies menu.
- PC players click on “Social” in the upper right corner of the screen or press F1.
- PlayStation players reach the menu with Triangle.
- Xbox players press the Y button.
- Select the “Add Activision Friends” option.
- Search for your friends from the desired network.
- To find out your Activision ID, look for the “Activision Account” option at the bottom of the screen.
- Then you can send the friend request. Your friend will see this request in their social menu.
- Once you’re connected, you can invite each other and join your lobbies.
This is how cross-progression works in CoD Vanguard
As with the last “Call of Duty” games, Vanguard supports cross-progression, also known as cross-save. This means that your progress on one platform automatically applies to other versions of the game.
How exactly does cross-progression work? We explain this with the example of PlayStation 4: You have Vanguard on PS4 and are playing it well. In a few weeks, however, a PS5 will be under the Christmas tree.
You can then continue playing Vanguard on the PS5 with exactly the progress you earned on the PS4. All weapons, attachments, camos, and battle pass levels that you have unlocked are present on the PS5 just as they are on the PS4. Thanks to the next-gen upgrade, you do not have to buy Vanguard again completely for PS5.
Cross-progression works across all platforms: Even if you have Vanguard on both PC and a console, your progress remains. This applies even if you play the game on Xbox and PlayStation. No matter where you play – you always have your progress.
