This is Call of Duty 2023: For the first time since the early days of the shooter franchise Call of Duty, a sequel is coming – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 picks up where the events of CoD MW2 (2022) left off and continues the story. Release: November 10, 2023.
However, MW3 is not supposed to be a DLC, nor an easy expansion. The responsible parties promise a full, standalone Call of Duty with its own gameplay feeling.

When is MW3 coming out in 2023? November 10, 2023, is officially confirmed. Early access to the campaign has also been confirmed – it starts on November 2.
On which platforms will CoD MW3 be released? On PC for Battle.net and Steam. On consoles for Xbox One, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Does MW3 have crossplay? Yes, all platforms can play together.
When will the beta for MW3 take place? The dates for the beta phases are known:
- October 6 to 7
- Early access for PlayStation
- October 8 to 10
- Open beta for PlayStation
- October 12 to 13
- Early access for Xbox and PC and open beta for PlayStation
- October 14 to 16
- Open beta for all platforms

What setting does MW3 offer? The shooter takes place in our current time, thus providing a modern setting with technical gameplay elements without much science fiction.
Which developer studio is behind MW3? The people at Sledgehammer Games are primarily responsible for MW3. The following CoDs were created by Sledgehammer:
- Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
- Advanced Warfare (2014)
- World War II (2017)
- Vanguard (2021)
What modes will there be? You can expect the following 3 modes:
- Campaign
- Multiplayer mode
- Zombie mode
Whether the PvE raids introduced with CoD MW2 will make a comeback remains to be seen. Currently, it looks like the zombie mode will take over the co-op part in MW3.
What is known about the content? Here’s a quick summary of what you can expect from the modes:
- Campaign
- Continues the story of MW2 (2022) and is supposed to consist of half open-world missions, where you decide how to complete the mission.
- Multiplayer mode
- Is supposed to be more dynamic again and provide a higher time-to-kill – full of nostalgia factor with 16 remastered maps at launch, just like from CoD MW2 (2009).
- Zombie mode
- Leaks suggest a mix of extraction shooter and the outbreak mode from CoD Cold War. Is supposed to take place on the Warzone maps and allow multiple teams in one match but completely without PvP.
By the way, 8 minutes of the first mission of the MW3 campaign were already shown at gamescom 2023. Here’s the video:
What is known about the gameplay? The developers have confirmed new movement options, such as the “Tac-Stance,” which is faster than firing through the sight but more precise than hip fire.
When assembling the loadout, more or less everything stays the same, but perks are now supposed to be assigned through certain clothing. We still have to wait and see if this system differs from the known loadout screens.
Here are a few more confirmed details:
- Map voting between matches is returning
- Perks no longer need to recharge
- 150 instead of 100 health points in multiplayer
- Perk for silent running is in the game
- Classic mini-map
- Slide-cancel returns but no longer resets the tactical sprint
- Reload-cancel returns
- Fire while sliding (Tac-Stance)
What happens to Warzone? The battle royale remains closely tied to the current CoD title. Weapons and items are shared. However, it is not yet known whether Warzone will adopt the new gameplay mechanics of MW3.
What else is there to know? Here are a few more interesting pieces of information:
- You can use many skins and bundles from MW2 also in the multiplayer of MW3
- After the release, at least 12 more multiplayer maps will be added to the game
- The zombie story is supposed to take place in the Treyarch universe with the largest zombie map that has ever existed
