In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, you can not only customize your weapons thanks to Gunsmith 2.0 but also your attachments. We show you how to tune them, which types of attachments can be tuned, and why you should do it.
Weapon Tuning – What is it? In Call of Duty, you can customize your weapons as usual in the Gunsmith according to your preferences. However, Infinity Ward has taken it a step further for Modern Warfare 2 and expanded the Gunsmith even more.
You can now not only customize your weapon and improve it with desired attachments, but also adjust your attachments through tuning.
This gives you better options to get to your desired weapon. However, the system behind it is somewhat opaque at first. Therefore, we will show you how to tune your attachments and why you should do it.
In line with this, we have embedded the new Gunsmith trailer for MW2:
CoD MW2: Attachment Tuning – Here’s How
Important information about Weapon Tuning: To gain the ability to tune your attachments, you first need to level up your weapon to its maximum level. For the M4, that would be level 20. Once you have reached the maximum level, a new window opens in the Gunsmith when you target an attachment.
As an example, we now take the M4’s Corio Precio factory stock. If we want to tune this, we can operate two levers, which, depending on their adjustment, will affect our values positively or negatively.

If we want more precision now, we slide the lower lever to the right, but we also incur a penalty on our mobility. Therefore, the Gunsmith is a double-edged sword.
Every improvement must be compensated by a deterioration, so you can’t run around with overpowered weapons. So think carefully about how you adjust your attachments. With the right compromises, strong weapons can be built quickly in Gunsmith 2.0.
Which types of attachments can be tuned? We sat down in the Gunsmith and found out which types of attachments can really be tuned and came to the following conclusion:
- Grip
- Stock
- Scope
- Barrel
- Muzzle
- Underbarrel
- Ammunition
The only components that cannot be tuned are:
- Laser
- Magazine
However, keep in mind that not every attachment in the listed categories can be tuned. For example, there is the “Demo D50 buffer tube” for the M4. This cannot be tuned.
Why should I tune my attachments? In the history of CoD, players were previously only allowed to use their attachments and tune their weapons through these bonuses. Now, Infinity Ward has given you more freedom to get even closer to your desired weapon.
The system may overwhelm a player, as one often does not know which attachment is good and whether other attachments might be better through tuning. However, once you take the time to understand it, the system becomes clearer, and you will understand which attachments would best fit which weapon.
So take some time, try out many options, and test them on the shooting range or in a private match. With the right combination, you will noticeably feel the differences on the battlefield.
