Mid-Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 is online. Update 1.12 brought new content and a huge list of over 120 bug fixes. MeinMMO has looked at the first reactions and answers the question: Are the shooters running smoothly now?
What is the situation with Call of Duty? Modern Warfare 2 has been on the market for about 6 weeks, Warzone 2 for about a month. Financially, both titles are a great success for the developers, but the technical state has been criticized in many areas. Additionally, important features from recent years are missing at release.
Now Call of Duty has released a huge update with over 120 bug fixes. This was the Mid-Season update; information about the content can be found here.
The long list of bug fixes is a reason for us to take a look at the community and gather first reactions. We are checking whether the state of Call of Duty has improved after the major update.
Part of the Mid-Season update was the very first PvE raid from Call of Duty. We have embedded the trailer for the activity here:
CoD MW2 & Warzone 2: State after the Mid-Season
What is the first impression? Although many known bugs have disappeared from the game, there are already new reports about bugs in the game just a few hours after the update. The first impression is not particularly positive.
During the research for the article, many negative opinions came together. There are still reports of game crashes on PC, criticism of the adjustments in balancing, and clips of new bugs that are in the game after the update.
However, at times, a positive report also mixed in among the criticism. Particularly the “Quality of Life” adjustments are well received. You will now be shown during a match which camo challenge you have completed.
CoD MW2: Better after the Mid-Season
What is the status of Modern Warfare 2? The new PvE raid, the map Shipment, and the possibility to unlock the new assault rifle in multiplayer are well received by players. Overall, CoD MW2 stands better in the Mid-Season than Warzone 2.
Some players report that saved loadouts have disappeared, as have previously collected progress for camo challenges. However, the biggest topic on Reddit is the nerf of the riot shield.
You move slower with it and it deals less damage. Many players would have preferred that the developers reduce the defensive capabilities of the shield when it is carried as a secondary weapon on the back.
The thread on the topic had already collected almost 9,000 upvotes at the time of the article – such numbers have not been seen in the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit for a while (via reddit.com).
However, the interest in the riot shield topic also shows that other problems are taking a back seat. Modern Warfare 2 has made a few important steps in the right direction with the Mid-Season – removed many bugs and provided interesting content.
However, during Season 1, only 2 maps were released in total, both of which were new versions of old 6v6 maps from previous CoD games. In terms of content quantity, it doesn’t look so good right now and Season 2 is still weeks away.
CoD Warzone 2: Criticism after the Mid-Season
What is the status of Warzone 2? The battle royale is getting hit harder after the update. There are many negative reports about the Mid-Season; here are some examples:
- Balancing adjustments do not work as announced
- Keyword NPCs in the DMZ mode (via twitter.com)
- Important bug fixes did not come
- Keyword broken ultimate perks (via twitter.com)
- Decisions were made against the wishes of the community
- Players wanted more buy stations on the map, but there are rather fewer (via twitter.com)
Unlike in the CoD MW2 subreddit, the top threads in the Warzone 2 subreddit revolve around problems in the game and less about the content.
There are reports about the still poor ping system and one of the most popular threads shortly after the update states it even clearer: “that was the worst update in CoD’s history” (via reddit.com).
Conclusion: Good for CoD MW2 / Bad for Warzone 2
The conclusion after the Mid-Season update is mixed. The mood for Modern Warfare 2 is significantly better than for Warzone 2. With Shipment, CoD MW2 received a map that many players wished for – even if it is old. This immediately gave a more positive momentum.
In Warzone 2, the mood has not improved. The new content could not convince, balancing adjustments did not have the desired effect, and there are still many problems.
However, the issues have not really burst – for both shooters. It is still not running smoothly even after the Mid-Season update. However, we will continue to keep an eye on the situation on MeinMMO.
