The gunsmith in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 allows you to customize your weapons in detail to suit your personal advantages. In one of the latest updates, the developers have adjusted the balance, making it possible to get the most out of your weapons.
How to use the gunsmith to your advantage? For newcomers, the gunsmith in Call of Duty MW2 is initially a challenge. There are numerous weapons and countless attachments with which you can personalize your guns. So it’s no wonder that even professionals continually find new attachments or tunings that were previously overlooked, even though they offer many advantages.
Basically, you should ensure that you enhance the natural characteristics of a weapon with the right attachments and tunings.

What have the developers changed? As part of the Season 2 Reloaded update, various ammunition types have been revised. Among other things, the dragon’s breath ammunition for shotguns has been nerfed.
At the same time, however, the developers are strengthening the other ammunition types: The disadvantages regarding bullet speed, recoil, and range have been removed for decay ammunition, hollow-point bullets, and overpressure ammunition. While this information can also be found in the patch notes, the developers shy away from revealing the tuning tricks.
Experiments with the gunsmith are sometimes tricky, but the results are usually worth it.
Warzone pro finds the right settings
Which ammunition should you use? For assault rifles, machine guns, and snipers, high-velocity ammunition remains the best choice. The CoD pro “TheXclusiveAce” found that especially submachine guns benefit from the mid-season update.
Looking at the variety of different “meta weapons”, it is noticeable that most do not use special ammunition for SMGs. Therefore, TheXclusiveAce tested the different ammunition types in a video.

What should you pay attention to when tuning? In the gunsmith, there are two different sliders for tuning that affect the handling of the weapon. The diagram in the middle shows you how the changes specifically take effect.
- On the vertical axis, you adjust the effective range or recoil dampening.
- On the horizontal axis, you set the recoil stability or bullet speed.
- Depending on your choices, the handling of your weapon will change.
In general, it is advisable to prioritize the effective range on the vertical axis and recoil stability on the horizontal axis for SMGs. Once you have chosen a tuning, you should check your settings at the shooting range.
The right ammunition makes your weapon stronger
What is so special about it? Effective range or recoil stability are values that can also be enhanced by other attachments. Grips or lasers always come with downsides. However, with ammunition, these downsides have now been removed, and in addition, there are unique effects that cannot be obtained through any other attachments. These include:
- Hollow-point bullets
- Stops enemy sprinting and prevents them from using it again for a short time as long as you hit their legs
- Slightly increased damage compared to standard ammunition
- Decay ammunition
- Delays enemy healing after they are hit
- Slightly increased damage compared to standard ammunition
- Overpressure ammunition
- Makes enemies flinch more upon hit, especially effective against snipers
- Slightly increased damage compared to standard ammunition
- Armor-piercing ammunition
- Increases penetration power and allows you to hit enemies through certain objects, such as doors
- Increases damage against vehicles and killstreaks, such as UAVs
Each type of ammunition has its own advantages. It’s best to try it out yourself and see which ammunition suits you best and fits your playstyle.
