The most important settings for high FPS
Why should I adjust my graphics settings at all? As with other games, the principle for CoD: Modern Warfare 2 is basically: the lower the graphics settings, the better the performance. Therefore, if you want to improve this, it is definitely worth taking a look at the settings.
You can find all important information about the latest Call of Duty briefly and succinctly in this article:

Display Settings
Display Mode: If you choose the exclusive fullscreen mode here, the game will be assigned most of your system’s resources. For high FPS and the best latency, we recommend selecting this mode. Windowed mode is only worth considering if you have multiple monitors and want to switch between them quickly.
Refresh Rate: This is by far the most important setting if you are aiming for a good FPS value. Therefore, make sure to set the refresh rate to the highest level adapted to your monitor. As with any other game, the refresh rate you will have ultimately also depends on your output device. So make sure this value is not lower than your monitor’s Hertz count.
Dynamic Resolution: With this setting, you can set a desired refresh rate that the game will automatically adjust the resolution to based on whether you are below or above that value. This can be quite helpful in some cases, but it can also cause your image to look blurry, which can affect your visibility and gameplay.
V-Sync (Game): With V-Sync, you limit the frame rate according to your monitor’s Hertz count, which prevents tearing. Tearing occurs when the image appears “torn” horizontally. However, this doesn’t help your latency. So it’s better to turn vertical sync off.
Custom Frame Rate Limit: Here you can set your own maximum FPS number. Make sure that the value in the gameplay slider is set to the maximum. For the menu, you can then limit the value, for example, to 100 FPS, to ease the load on your hardware.
Brightness: Be sure to set this value a bit higher. We recommend a value of 55. The higher brightness provides better visibility but is also strongly dependent on your monitor.

Quality Settings
Quality Presets: Here the graphics of the game are automatically set to your chosen quality level. This is of course convenient and saves you a lot of work, but with individual adjustments, you might achieve even more FPS and better latency. Generally, we would recommend setting the preset to “Balanced”. This should give you a good compromise between performance and image quality.
Render Resolution: As long as you don’t have performance issues with the game, you should leave this setting alone. There are also better ways to increase your FPS.
Upscaling / Sharpening: With this setting, you can activate AMD’s FSR or Nvidia’s DLSS. The technology behind it allows the GPU to render the image at a lower resolution and then upscale it. This is done with an artificial intelligence algorithm and can, in the best case, give you a decent performance boost with almost the same image quality.
Antialiasing and Antialiasing Quality: Here you should activate the “regular” SMAA. This gives you a sharper and clearer image than the cinematic SMAA. For better performance, we also recommend setting the antialiasing quality to low.
Texture Resolution: Of course, it hurts to deliberately make such a beautiful game look slightly less appealing. However, if your goal is solely to get the best performance out of Modern Warfare 2, we recommend setting the resolution to low.
Anisotropic Texture Filter: Here you should definitely leave the setting on high. This setting is particularly useful concerning visibility and costs practically no performance nowadays.
Detail Level Distant and Detail Level Close: Again, if your sole focus for multiplayer mode is just on getting the best FPS, you should set both detail levels to low.
Particle Quality: If you reduce this value, you may be able to increase your FPS further as fewer particles will need to be rendered by the graphics card. This is especially useful in action-packed moments.
Particle Quality Level: You should set this setting to low, but don’t expect too much impact on performance or appearance.
Shader Quality: Low. The performance increase is manageable, but so is the loss of image quality.
Tessellation: Be sure to turn this setting off! In the campaign, the extra details and higher depth are certainly nice, but for multiplayer mode, it costs you way too much performance.
Terrain Memory: Reducing this setting won’t give you extra FPS but will definitely make the game look less appealing. So, keep the setting at “Max”.
Texture Streaming on Demand: Turn this setting off. Otherwise, the game streams high-resolution textures from the Internet. While this will save you disk space, it puts quite a strain on your internet connection and sometimes also on performance.
Volumetric Quality: Low. This setting gives you a decent FPS boost.
Delayed Physics Quality: Here you can squeeze out a few more FPS by turning off the setting. This setting regulates the quality of water physics, but since many levels don’t have this at all, you can completely do without it.
Shadow Map Resolution: The image quality will suffer, but definitely set this setting to low or very low for a solid performance boost.
Ambient Occlusion: In the campaign, nicer shadows are nice to look at, but for a huge boost in your FPS, you should definitely disable this option in multiplayer mode.

View Settings
Field of View (FOV): How much of the environment you want in your field of view is a personal preference. A larger field of view can cost you a few FPS since more additional scenery has to be rendered, but it can also significantly improve your gameplay in multiplayer mode. Therefore, we recommend setting the value to the maximum of 120.
Aiming Field of View, Weapon Field of View, Vehicle Field of View: You can set these settings completely according to your personal preferences.
Camera: For both settings, we recommend going for 50% to reduce image shaking slightly.
