Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently in its pre-season, Season 1 will celebrate its release on November 16. The Battle Pass is not yet live and much content will come with the start of the season – such as the Hardcore mode. What you can expect from Season 1 and when it all kicks off can be found here on MeinMMO.
The preload for Warzone 2 is also already online.
With Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2 comes the largest CoD DLC of all time. On November 16, there will be new content for multiplayer, the Co-Op modes of CoD MW2, and the biggest chunk: the free Battle Royale Warzone 2.0 with its bonus mode DMZ.

CoD MW2: Season 1 – Start and Download
When does Season 1 of CoD MW2 start? The start is on November 16, it will kick off at 7 PM.
How big is the download? That depends on your platform again. Players report the following update sizes:
- PC (Steam/Battle.net): approx. 32 GB
- Xbox One / Series: approx. 50 – 60 GB
- PS4 / PS5: 25 – 30 GB
The size of the download also depends on which parts of MW2 you have installed. All packs have been slightly adjusted – the fewer packages you have on your hard drive, the smaller the download.
Is there a preload? The preload is available.

CoD MW2: Season 1 – Season Content at Release
What content will be available at the launch of Season 1? It is now known what specific content will be available at the season launch. We will list everything for you with details.
- Hardcore modes – Tier 1
Less health, hardly any HUD and team fire – many CoD players prefer things a bit tougher, but the hardcore options were not in the game at launch. They are coming with Season 1 under the new name “Tier 1”.
- 6vs6 map: Shoot House
As with the first season of CoD MW 2019, Shoot House comes into play. The map was brand new in 2019 and with its 3-lane system and clear layout, it quickly became a classic. One of the most popular maps back then returns with some adjustments.
- Combat statistics
Currently, you can neither view your global KD in MW2, nor any other statistics. So far, you could only see your match KD. With Season 1, such things will be viewable.
- Battle Pass / 3 new weapons
Modern Warfare 2 is now the fourth CoD in a row with a Battle Pass. Here, you get over 100 in-game items for around 10 €; however, you’ll need to put in a lot of playtime. There are also free tiers available.
For 2 of the free tiers, you will receive the new weapons: Victus XMR Sniper Rifle and BAS-P SMG (“Bruen Ops” platform). Additionally, you can unlock the assault rifle Chimera (“Bruen Ops” platform) through a challenge.
- Spec Ops Mission
The fourth Spec Ops mission: One player sits in the helicopter above and supports player 2, who clears and searches through buildings below with NPC allies.
- Seasonal Prestige System
If you reach rank 56, you will level up to Prestige 2. This unlocks challenges to grind cosmetics. You can reach Prestige 2 at level 100 and the maximum prestige level for Season 1 is Prestige 5 at level 250.
Unlike in the prestige systems of previous years, you can now “pre-level”. If you exceed level 250, you keep your progress directly for the next season.

CoD MW2: Season 1 – Warzone 2.0
When does Warzone 2.0 start? The new Battle Royale launches on November 16 at 7 PM.
Will Warzone 2.0 be free? Yes, Warzone 2.0 will once again be a free Battle Royale that you start through Modern Warfare 2. You don’t need to buy MW2 for this.
What can you expect? Warzone 1 was actually only planned for a year, which led to some issues in the free Battle Royale. With Warzone 2.0, the developers want to get it right and are simultaneously changing a lot of what made the old Warzone.

What is the DMZ mode? So far there has been no word about the loot mode in Warzone 2.0 – however, the DMZ mode is definitely coming to the game.
This is the first foray of CoD into the extraction shooter market. It is a PvEvP mode similar to Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown.
You will be dropped somewhere on the map, complete tasks, collect loot, and try to leave the map alive. If you fail, your collected items are lost. Not only NPCs will get in your way – real players can also target you.

CoD MW2: Season 1 – Battle Pass
When does the Battle Pass start? Together with Season 1 on November 16. If you purchased the Vault Edition, you will also level up a few tiers right away.
What is the Battle Pass? You exchange playtime for exclusive cosmetics that can only be obtained through the respective Battle Pass of a season. The pass is expected to cost 1,000 CoD Points (around 10 €) and lets you earn over 100 items, including cosmetics, but also XP tokens or CoD Points.
There are also a few free tiers that all players can unlock – including the new weapons. But most of the tiers are behind the paywall of 1,000 CoD Points.
However, the system has gone through a few changes, which we will explain in more detail here:
What’s included in the Battle Pass? Since this is the first Battle Pass of CoD MW2, we cannot say for sure yet. However, based on previous years, you can expect the following items:
- 2 new weapons for Warzone
- A new operator
- Legendary rewards upon completion of the pass
- Many operator skins with missions for even more skins
- Cosmetics such as calling cards, emblems, sprays, and charms
- Vehicle items such as battle songs or skins
- XP tokens for an experience boost
- 10% experience boost on the Battle Pass

In recent years, it was always the case that you could earn more CoD Points than the pass cost. A fairly fair system, but it requires many hours of gameplay.
Who will be the poster boy / poster girl of Season 1? Each season features one or more operators in focus, who also drive the story forward. For the release, “Zeus” will be included in the game. An as-yet-unknown operator with a big helmet.
CoD MW2: Season 1 – Further Content
When does Mid-Season 1 start? The release is on December 14 and will bring, for example, the new raids. However, some content will already come into play before that.
What content will come during the season? Here, too, we will list all the complete content with some details:
- Modern Warfare FC – In-Season
Neymar (11/21), Pogba (11/25), Messi (11/29) – the three famous football stars will come as operators into the game. Additionally, there will be a small event and a mini-game mode – more details will come later.
- Assault Rifle M13B – Mid-Season
During mid-season, there will be another rifle for the “Bruen Ops” platform – the assault rifle M13B, which looks suspiciously similar to the M13 from CoD MW 2019.
- Shipment – Mid-Season
The epitome of grind maps from Call of Duty and probably the most popular map in the Modern Warfare series. Usually, players can’t stand being on the small map for long, but many players still love it.
- Raid: Episode 1 – Mid-Season
Not all details on the new PvE activity are available yet. The developers state: “Raids continue the story of the MW2 campaign and will be the ultimate challenge for trios with a mix of stealth, uncompromising action, and puzzles.”.
