Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has made many gameplay adjustments and plays differently than its predecessors. Therefore, MeinMMO author Maik Schneider has a little tip for you that was already good before and is now almost OP – run slower.
In this short guide, I want to give you an important tip that can improve your gameplay instantly:
- Sprint less, be overall slower!
I will give you 3 good reasons to slow down in CoD MW2, so your killfeed can flourish.
By the way, Season 1 is coming up soon – here you can find all the info. You can find more about Warzone 2.0 in the video:
CoD MW2: Slower! – Movement mechanics are weaker
What does that mean? Compared to earlier CoD titles, movement has been heavily nerfed. You can see this in two important techniques:
- Slide-cancel no longer in the game
- Bunny hopping is hardly worth it anymore
Also, sliding itself is significantly slower than before and doesn’t allow you to shoot for a certain time. Overall, many actions in the game are slower, such as using equipment or activating killstreaks.
You shouldn’t completely stop sprinting – a quick run from one cover to another is still strong. However, if you suspect enemies nearby, always remain at walking speed until you are sure where the enemy is.
Also, pay attention to mission objectives in the individual modes – an important tip from MeinMMO user “Hosenschlange”. To collect tags in “Kill Confirmed” or to quickly get points in a position, sometimes a quick sprint is the only option.
CoD MW2: Slower! – Weapons have better stats
What does that mean? Sprinting makes your weapons worse. There are several modifiers that affect your aim down sights speed (ADS speed). The faster you are, the slower you aim, which leads to disadvantages in direct combat:
- Normal running: Standard ADS speed
- Sprinting: Decreased ADS speed
- Tactical sprint: Even lower ADS speed
If an enemy comes around the corner at full speed, they have a significant disadvantage in their aim speed. Unless you’re using a battle rifle focused on range, you will aim faster and shoot the enemy out of the picture.
However, hipfire setups from submachine guns can still annoy you. They don’t need to aim and can shoot right away – but they have a limited range.
But always stay in motion – especially with a controller. Otherwise, the strong aim assist won’t fully activate – the keyword is “aim rotation”.
CoD MW2: Slower! – Steps and environmental focus
What does that mean? Steps are a valuable tool for detecting enemies even without visual contact. However, if you run around, the enemy’s steps are drowned out by your own. You simply hear enemies worse.
In addition, continuous sprints usually don’t allow for sufficient reconnaissance. You can’t check every corner, not every time quickly “left” and “right” when crossing an uncovered area.
Relax, use all your senses, and listen to every sound. Enemy footsteps sound different than allied footsteps. You can find the best settings for louder footsteps here.
I have been with the franchise for 14 years, and the movement has never been as relaxed as in Modern Warfare 2.
Optimal for my playstyle, my strengths – I could never get used to the CoD jetpacks, and I also recommend to my teammates to take it slow when things aren’t going well.
Also, a few relaxing snacks on the table, and the evening can happily run late into the night: 7 gaming snacks that taste good but don’t mess up the controller or clutter the keyboard.
Do you want to expand my tips? Do you possibly have hints on how Run&Gun players can also benefit from the mechanics? Leave a comment on the topic.
