The hardest players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare show their diligence and dedication with special weapon skins, the camos in Platinum and Damascus. To obtain the skins, hundreds of gameplay hours in CoD: MW are necessary. A new tier is set to come soon.
What are these rewards? Rare skins in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are a reward for players willing to invest a lot of time. They are cosmetic enhancements for the items.
The skins are currently available in 3 tiers:
- Gold
- Platinum
- Damascus
It is arduous to grind for the skins, as numerous challenges must be completed for each of the special skins. Just to obtain a Gold skin, players must unlock all spray categories for a weapon. For each weapon, they must complete specific challenges, such as headshots or collecting kills while crouching.
Once all challenges for a weapon are completed, the Gold skin is awarded. But that is only the beginning.
For the Platinum skin, all Gold skins for a weapon class are required. For the Damascus skin, all Platinum skills in the game are needed.
If you’re still bored after 800 hours …
How long has this been going on now? In November, it was assumed that it takes “about” 600-800 kills with a weapon to achieve Gold status. From Infinity Ward, it was stated that approximately 18 hours of gameplay can be expected for each Gold skin.
For the Damascus skin, players calculated it then to about 702 hours, which would be approximately 30 days of pure playtime in CoD: MW, during which various challenges needed to be completed with different weapons.
New Master Camo comes for the truly hardcore
This is what Infinity Ward says now: Heavy users in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have expressed a desire for even more skins. They have also gone through the hard challenges by now, as they have had time since October and needed only “700 hours”.
The Art Director of Infinity Ward, Joel Emslie, has now confirmed on reddit that a new “Master Camo” will be coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This is expected to happen by the end of March or early April.
It is still unclear how players will earn the new “Master Camo”. It should, however, come through challenges. Players will not have to purchase it in the cash shop.
Infinity Ward has confirmed that Master Camo is a new tier and will not replace Damascus. The developers assured that they never want to remove a skin from the game. Infinity Ward only wants to bring in new camos.
This sounds like there will be plenty to grind for. If anyone is still bored after 800 hours of grinding in CoD MW, there’s now something to look forward to.
- The skins do not provide any gameplay advantages; in the meantime, there was even trouble with the Platinum skins that hindered players’ aiming.
- The coolest skin in CoD: MW was generated through a glitch.
