Piccadilly is considered by many players to be one of the worst maps ever in a CoD game. The unpopularity of the map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is illustrated by 2 new clips. Even a developer prefers to leave.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare faced a lot of criticism upon release regarding the new layout of the maps. One map symbolizes the players’ dissatisfaction – Piccadilly.
Although the developers regularly tweak the game and release new updates, the map remains largely untouched and there have been few improvements.
Now, 2 clips have surfaced that show just how unpopular the map really is. One of them even shows a developer’s stream, who opts for a quick “I’m outta here.” rather than looking for another map.
35 players leave the Piccadilly lobby during matchmaking
What are these clips about? The video above shows a short clip from a stream of the developer “iw_MikeD“. When he and his teammates land in a Piccadilly lobby, you can hear a brief “we wanna back out of this one” and his squad already bids farewell to the disliked map.
The second clip shows even more clearly the difficult position the map has among players:
User “BobbyBoJanglles” shared on reddit a nearly 3-minute clip that shows a matchmaking session of a total of 5:20 minutes. During this time, 35 players leave the lobby, and in the meantime, you learn a life lesson: never get married, or you won’t be able to afford as many CoD points.
Issues with cover and campers
Why does hardly anyone like the map? Redditor “-Claive-“ examined some time ago the reasons why Piccadilly scares off many players. For him, the issues consist of 3 points:
- The spawns – Players have limited options and cover on the map after spawning. This particularly gives an advantage to the team spawning at “A”. If you don’t want to walk directly into the sights of the snipers from “C”, you have little options here.
- Cover options – Piccadilly offers too many good covers that can be easily seen when leaving. This aids campers in their playstyle, as it is often more worthwhile to wait for someone else to leave cover than to go out yourself.
- The clothing store – On top of that, there is a strong sniper position from which almost the entire map can be surveyed. This spot provides good cover and is only accessible from one passage. Ideal for maintaining control from here.
Overall, “-Claive-” argues that this leads to the map allowing little tactical play and rather supports camper behavior. In his opinion, the covers on the map need to be completely rearranged and the opportunities for close quarters combat expanded.
No major changes are expected, some game modes even work
Is there only complaining? There are also fans, but even they often have issues. “tiredofnoobtards” says on reddit: “Headquarters and Domination play quite well. Hardpoint is okay since the B-flag was moved, but Team Deathmatch or “Free for All” is a tedious chore.”
Will the developers take action? So far, the authorities at “Infinity Ward” have made no indications of strongly rebuilding the maps as demanded for Piccadilly. Currently, the developers are probably quite busy anyway, as the Battle Royale “Warzone” is likely to be released soon.
While especially the larger “Ground War” maps are occasionally removed from rotation to eliminate nasty exploits, this has hardly happened with the smaller 6v6 maps. Piccadilly will likely remain one of the least popular maps.
What are your experiences with Piccadilly? Do you find the map as miserable? Which map do you think also does a poor job?
