The shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a space hog of epic proportions. Especially on PS4 and Xbox One, this mammoth work is overwhelming some SSDs or other hard drives, especially since Warzone came out. Now Infinity Ward comments on the issue and gives a tip on how to manage the storage problem on PS4 and Xbox One.
This is the problem: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare now weighs almost 200 GB. The update 1.20 was released at the end of April and was 30 GB, and a lot has also piled up since then.
If you have a standard PS4 with 500 GB under your TV, you will hardly find any space left on your hard drive for many more games besides Call of Duty and system-relevant data.
Although the team from Infinity Ward has countered in the meantime with Season 2, apologized for the storage hunger, and cleaned up a bit, the problem is back a few weeks later.
The large mid-season update in May weighed 22 GB on PS4 and 30 GB on Xbox One.
We know the problem, but we want to offer new content
This is what Infinity Ward says now: In a statement to US Gamer, Production Director Paul Haile of Infinity Ward said:
Modern Warfare and Warzone are both massive experiences that can be played in a lot of different ways, and new content is added regularly, and we are aware of the entire download size.
As a team, we feel of course obligated to provide the game with new free content, but we also need to take steps to make sure the overall footprint can be better managed, including a management screen for DLC packs on consoles. This screen allows players to choose which DLC packs they want to keep and which they want to remove to save space.

As a tip for saving space, Infinity Ward suggests that you remove the parts that you don’t need for multiplayer, like the campaign or Spec Ops.
Save space in CoD MW and Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One
How to remove the campaign and Spec Ops on PS4: To save space on PS4, according to the website Dexerto, you first need to delete the entire game and then only reinstall the parts that you absolutely need and want to keep. This will most likely be Warzone and multiplayer.
This will take some time.
How to remove the campaign and Spec Ops on Xbox One: A more elegant solution is offered by the Microsoft console:
- on Xbox One, go to the icon for Modern Warfare, but do not start it
- now press the menu button
- select the parts you want to uninstall.
For PC, there apparently is no solution on how to get the enormous storage hunger of CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone under control.
Another problem that affects players on PS4 and Xbox One harder than PC players is the crossplay, which is enabled by default in Warzone. PC players are often regarded as cheaters and console players want to exclude them.
