In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the battle royale spin-off Warzone, a major update is coming. The contents sound enticing – Master Camo and brand new gunsmith options are likely included. Plus, one of the most popular modes will return.
What’s coming to CoD? This Friday, April 24, Activision Blizzard released the community update for this week and gave us a glimpse of the new patch.
This one could be significant. There are likely 4 special points to come, some of which could fundamentally change our CoD experience in Modern Warfare and Warzone:
- Master Camo for favorite weapons
- Frankenstein / Frankensmithing for blueprints
- Shoot the Ship with “Cranked” and “Grind”
- Gas changes in Warzone
If everything goes smoothly, we are awaiting the biggest changes to the gunsmith since the release of Modern Warfare. Additionally, changes to the gas circle in Warzone and a favorite mode will return to the playlist. This could be an incredibly good week for Call of Duty.
Update April 29, 10:00 AM: The patch is live and even brings more than expected. The new LMG “Bruen Mk9” can now be unlocked. Here are the patch notes for update 1.20.
Update April 28, 11:00 AM: It seems a fifth point is being added. With the update, a new contract arrives in Warzone. With “Most Wanted,” you can earn revives for the entire team.
When will the update be released? For us, it is expected to go live either on Tuesday, April 28, at 7:00 PM or on Wednesday, April 29, around 8:00 AM. Console players should prepare for a longer update time. After the patch, players on Xbox and PlayStation will need to download a 15 GB data pack to get back into the game.
Gunsmith with new offers
What is the Master Camo? The blog post mentions “Obsidian camo.” It is suspected that this is another skin variant that we can unlock by playing a specific weapon a lot.
So far, there are 3 special metal skin variants here, which take quite a long time to unlock:
- Gold – Master the weapon
- Platinum – Master the weapon class
- Damascus – Master almost all weapons
Now, a real grind skin for individual weapons seems to be coming. Joe Cecot, Design Director at Infinity Ward, revealed a few weeks ago that we can expect something here, and now it seems to be happening.
We haven’t had a look at the new skins yet. However, the volcanic glass “Obsidian” is usually represented as black, and it’s possible that CoD goes in this direction as well.
What is “Frankenstein”? Also an exciting skin feature that elevates the customization of our weapons to a new level. The blog post talks about “mixing and adjusting blueprint weapon attachments to your heart’s content.”
So, if we have the blueprint of an M4A1 and particularly like the shape of the barrel, we can integrate this barrel into another M4 blueprint that we particularly like the shape of.
This allows for a whole new way of customizing. The weapons can look completely different, and crazy setups are possible. They may not always look good, but they are definitely unique. A really cool innovation that many soldiers will likely enjoy.
If unwanted pay-to-win blueprints appear again, players can then attach the OP attachments to their own weapon.
Cool playlist in MW and new gas circle in Warzone
What does the mode look like? With “Shoot the Ship” (it was previously called “Shoot or Ship, it doesn’t matter”), one of the most popular modes is returning to the playlist. The mix of the crazy mini-map Shipment, which has an unusually large fanbase, and the slightly larger map “Shoot House” launches as a Moshpit with “Cranked” and “Grind.” This promises an explosive mix:
- Cranked – Anti-camper mode where a timer counts down after each kill. New kills extend the timer. If it runs out, it goes BOOM!
- Grind – Reminiscent of “Kill Confirmed,” but the collected dog tags must be brought to a specific location before they count as points.
What happens with the gas? It is not yet clear, but changes to the gas are likely to affect gameplay in Warzone significantly. The preliminary patch notes state: “The speed and size of the circle in Warzone will be adjusted.”
“TheXclusiveAce,” who discusses the current Call of Duty and Warzone extensively in his English videos, suspects in his notes analysis that the circle could get smaller and close faster. He believes that after the start and the completion of the first firefights, it sometimes goes a bit too quiet.
It’s possible that we will soon have a faster gas circle or that the intervals between gas phases will become shorter, but the circle at the beginning will be larger. Running away from the gas could become even more difficult. However, we will only see how the circle changes with the update. As soon as there is newer information, you’ll get it here on MeinMMO.
