The last Battle Pass of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has ended and the developers have not provided any concrete information on what comes next. MeinMMO shows the current status regarding the future of CoD MW & Warzone.
What’s going on with CoD? Season 6 took a few extra rounds in the last days and ran a bit longer than expected. But the developers not only quietly extended Season 6 and thus the Battle Pass of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but also the ending of the “still” current season passed without much notice.
Many players are now asking, “What happens next? Is there a Season 7? Is there new content for CoD MW and what about Warzone?” MeinMMO wants to answer all these questions in this article.
Update December 16: Season 1 and the new Warzone map are live. Here you can find all the important information.
Update December 15: Thanks to a trailer and a blog post, we now know roughly what the Battle Pass of Season 1 offers.
Update December 11: The content of Season 1 is known. MeinMMO presents the complete content in overview.
Don’t worry, the new season starts in a few days
What’s next for CoD? With the release of the new Black Ops Cold War, the focus is shifting from Modern Warfare to Cold War. CoD MW will no longer be supported as before. You can still expect playlist updates, but major content drops like the start of a new season are probably not going to happen anymore.
Still, a new season for 3 CoDs will start soon. CoD MW, Cold War, and Warzone will closely merge with the start of Season 1 of Cold War on December 16. The 3 first-person shooters will then share the progression system and the Battle Pass. The items you unlock with the Battle Pass can’t be used in CoD MW, but they can be used in Cold War and Warzone. Update 1.07 has already paved the way for the latest “Black Ops” title.
The shift in focus does not mean that the “old” CoDs will be completely neglected. Especially Warzone continues on its successful path and players of CoD MW need not completely give up hope for new content. Find out here what a major leak has predicted for Season 1 of Cold War.
Warzone continues as usual
What’s next for Warzone? In the Battle Royale, everything continues as usual. With the start of the next season, you can expect new content, and Warzone will be part of the content planning in the upcoming seasons.
In the long term, everything remains the same. However, there will be a lot happening in the short term. With the start of the first Season of Cold War, a new map for Warzone will likely go live: Rebirth Island. Additionally, the new weapons from Cold War are also expected to come to Warzone. There will likely be not only almost 30 more weapons but also 2 versions of the AK-47, AUG, or MP5.
However, the developers have not yet revealed how the introduction will proceed in detail. However, it is already known that the weapons will have their own balancing, thus differing from their values in Cold War.
Developers also announced new content for Modern Warfare
What’s next for CoD MW? Modern Warfare is not quite at the end of the content pipeline yet. However, the developers from Infinity Ward have been incredibly quiet since the release of Cold War. One developer broke the silence – the “Lead Multiplayer VFX Artist” from Infinity Ward Reed Shingledecker:
Translation of the tweet:
- More content is coming. I just don’t know the official name. I hope information will be published soon so that people know what’s going on.
This statement raises hopes for further content for CoD MW. A leak, for example, points to the cult operator Soap. However, some unused weapons have already been found in the data. A leaked list from 2019 also shows some maps that have not made it into the game yet.
However, what specifically will come remains uncertain for now. What seems certain is that CoD MW will adopt the prestige system from Black Ops Cold War, regularly launches a new playlist, and that there will be no Season 7 for Modern Warfare. Because the CoD cycle will restart on December 16 with Season 1.
