In a practice match between two CDL teams from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare , one team used an unusual tactic. To attack the objective faster, the entire team eliminated themselves with grenades. And it actually worked.
Here was the scene: In a training match “Control” between the “Call of Duty League” teams “Florida Mutineers” and “Paris Legion,” the Florida players were 50 points behind on the Ramaza map.
After a failed attack on the current control point, a team member of the “Mutineers” counted down from 3. Then, all players who were still alive threw a Semtex grenade on the ground and eliminated themselves.
Through this action, most team members could spawn on the other side of the map, right near the next control point. The team was able to gain an advantage this way.
Switching Map Sides with Grenades and Timing
Why did it work? The spawn system of Modern Warfare has been criticized by some players since the launch of the shooter. Often players spawn far from objectives or action, or they spawn right in the middle and get eliminated immediately. Sometimes this results in eliminating your entire team.
But it seems that you can use this to your advantage. The Florida team has clearly trained this tactic, even if it was used in this case out of necessity and for fun due to the scoreboard. The whole team laughed heartily afterward.
Can I do this too? If you’re playing with a full team, such tactics should work.
You should experiment a bit, and your whole squad needs to have the same grenades, but in modes like Control, Headquarters, or Domination, such self-made “spawn flips” could be extremely helpful.
You can also try combining Thermite with a Gas Grenade. The result will surprise you.
Is this cheating or…? Using spawns to your advantage is not directly forbidden.
However, there are rules in the CDL against eliminating yourself. A player from the “Dallas Empires,” also a CDL team, made a clear statement about this on Twitter.
According to his statement, pro soldiers in the league cannot just eliminate themselves for fun. At least in the CDL, this trick is therefore forbidden.
