Call of Duty: Modern Warfare goes live today, March 10, with not only the Warzone online but also a substantial update for the multiplayer. There’s a new weapon, fresh modes to try out, and a lot of smaller adjustments.
What’s new? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is in the “Battle Royale” craze. But the BR update on March 10 didn’t just bring the new 150-player Warzone mode online; there was also new gear for multiplayer, several adjustments, and bug fixes.
Check out the highlights of the patch notes for update 1.17 here.
CoD patch on March 10 comes with a new weapon and playlist update
How large is the update? The patch came with the Battle Royale Warzone and this time it was a bit larger. You should plan for a download between 16 and 22 GB.
What new content is there? As announced at the beginning of Season 2, update 1.17 brought a new shotgun into the game. The “VLK Rogue” corresponds to a “Shotgun M26 (MASS)” and can be unlocked by all players. You just need to complete a “small” task:
- Get at least 7 kills with shotguns that have 5 attachments in 15 games.
Additionally, there are new modes, while a few old ones disappear. The grounded Ground War, which replaced a popular mode and didn’t go down well, has been replaced by the regular “Ground War”.
Currently, no Gunfight tournaments are running. For a few weeks, you could compete here in 2vs2 matches for good placements and prizes. However, this mode was still marked as a beta version in-game and is likely to return to the playlist later.
The 3 additional modes this week are:
- Search & Rescue – Like Search & Destroy, but you can revive allies.
- Chaos Moshpit – Crazy 10vs10 mode. A mix of Cranked, Domination, and Drop Zone.
- Shoot or Ship, no matter – The obligatory 24/7 playlist where you only play Shoot House or Shipment.
A lot of bug fixes and a few balance adjustments
What weapon balancing changes were made? There was only one adjustment to weapon strengths. The sawed-off version of the 725 shotgun is supposed to be more effective at the shortest ranges. For that, mobility and close combat damage were increased, but range was reduced.
In addition, the “over-buff” of the shotgun model 680 is going away. A bug led to infinite ammunition here, but resulted in little advantage.
Shots with the thermite bolts from the crossbow now deal even more damage to Juggernauts. This weapon is likely to become the absolute Jugger-killer, as these rounds already easily pierced the armor of the combat suits before this adjustment.
What other changes are there? This list is a bit longer this time. We present the highlights:
- Many exploit fixes – For example on Hackney Yard and Piccadilly
- Exploit fixes in Ground War – There was a really nasty trick. However, it is currently unclear whether it was specifically fixed.
- Spawn fix on Rust – The tactical insertion should now work properly again.
- New mini-map – You can now choose between a square and a round mini-map.
Otherwise, there are a bunch of little things. If you want to read the full patch notes in English, visit the “Infinity Ward” homepage.
