“Octane” is currently considered one of the best assault rifle players of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. He has now introduced his new setup for the M4A1, which represents the new standard in the CoD league after a nerf.
Why did the pros need a new M4A1 setup? The current Call of Duty brought with it the biggest weapon balancing in its short history along with the mid-season update of Season 4 the biggest weapon balancing. Included were, among others:
- A sensible nerf for the strong Gray 5.56
- Adjustments to the popular MP5
- Change of the common attachment “Without Stock”
At first glance, the two points above seem to have had the biggest impact on the game. However, it was actually the nerf of the attachment “Without Stock” that threw off the setups of the pros in the official “Call of Duty: League” (CDL).
The pro Sam “Octane” Larew is considered one of the best assault rifle mains in the league and has now introduced the setup that most of the M4A1 players in the CDL use after the nerf of the removed stock. We have embedded his video about the setup here for you:

What does the setup look like? The M4 is a powerful all-round rifle and the setup offers a strong mixture of stability, range, and aim speed. Compared to the previously used build, only the stock actually changes:

- Muzzle: Compensator
- Barrel: Corvus custom marksman
- Stock: FORGE TAC close combat scope
- Underbarrel: Command grip
- Grip: Textured grip tape
The Corvus barrel and compensator help keep the rifle steady while firing, but slow down the weapon. The “Command Grip” is a strong underbarrel and stabilizes horizontal recoil without compromising aim speed.
To give the weapon back some speed, you attach the “Textured Grip Tape” and FORGE TAC stock to the M4. The setup plays very similarly to the old variant “Without Stock” and that is exactly how it should be.
Does it work in Warzone as well? The setup is also strong in Call of Duty: Warzone, but there are often better alternatives, as different demands apply here.
The useful suppressors are often set in the battle royale, as they help you avoid being spotted by opponents on the map when shooting. The Monolithic Suppressor also increases your range and is considered one of the best attachments for all weapons.
In addition, the choice of barrel often falls on the largest version that offers the most range. The Corvus barrel ranks just behind the M16 barrel, which shifts the damage reduction even further. Moreover, many Warzone players opt for larger magazines to have a better chance in situations where they are outnumbered.
However, you should also try one attachment from the pro setup in Warzone: The muzzle “Compensator”. This thing provides strong weapon control. If you play aggressively for kills and play an aggressive tactic and you can handle being spotted on the map when shooting, try attaching the “Compensator”.
