New information from an American magazine now indicates a release of the Battle Royale mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for March. Warzone could even come as a free-to-play “stand-alone” version.
What does the leak say? The American news portal Videogameschronicle (VGC) reports, citing internal sources from the developer studio, that the release of the Battle Royale mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare could take place in early March.
The magazine specifically suspects Tuesday, March 10th. Warzone is expected to be unlocked for all players, and not just that. According to new information, VGC expects that the new COD Battle Royale will be released as free-to-play.
Here you can find all the information about the release, content, and size of “Warzone”.
Possible Warzone release in March as free-to-play
How certain is the release date? The US site does not elaborate further on the source’s information, but only provides as additional info that there were reportedly unexpected problems during development.
According to VGC sources, the release is “at least a few weeks away” (translated). The magazine accordingly suspects a release in March, specifically: on March 10th. That’s a Tuesday, which is the typical update day for Modern Warfare.
However, the day remains pure speculation. According to current leaked information, the BR mode could appear even earlier, as soon as today, February 18th.
How likely is free-to-play? Here the magazine goes into a bit more detail. The marketing campaign for “Warzone” is supposed to start this week. Internal sources report that Activision has already invited content creators to the studio to extensively test the new BR mode and record gameplay for possible reporting.
Warzone is expected to function as the third pillar of the COD series, alongside COD Mobile and the premium games released annually on the major platforms. The size would allow the mode, the map is significantly larger than that of the predecessor Blackout from Black Ops 4 and offers correspondingly more possibilities.
This means that “Warzone” could also be developed further after the era of the current “Modern Warfare”. Activision hopes to gain access to new players who will be introduced to the COD series through the Battle Royale, thus becoming potential customers for the premium games that are usually released at the end of the year.
However, these are still just speculations and the information should be taken with a certain caution.
When will the Battle Royale finally come, what do you think? This month, next month, or do we have to wait even longer?
