With Season 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare received a new assault rifle. Let’s take a look at what the Grau 5.56 has to offer and which attachments are important.
What kind of weapon is this? The new “Battle Pass” weapon Grau 5.56 entered the game with Season 2, making it the 10th assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
The Grau is more of a mobile assault rifle like the RAM-7 or M4A1 and uses 5.56 caliber ammunition. It has more range but a lower fire rate.
The new gun is modeled after a Swiss army rifle and resembles the SIG 552 Commando in its basic design. This is a modified version of the SIG 550, which is considered very flexible, and in CoD, you can heavily customize the rifle with attachments.

These are the weapon’s stats in comparison
The stats of the Grau 5.56 come from “darkrangeresp,” who shared his first test results on reddit.
| Weapon | Grau | M4A1 | AK-47 | RAM-7 |
| Fire Rate (RPM) | about 700 | 800 | 561 | 882 |
| 4-Shot Kills up to: | about 37m | about 25m | always | about 26m |
| Reload Time | about 1.6s | about 1.4s | about 1.2s | about 1.6s |
With these values, the Assault Rifle (AR) positions itself quite accurately in the middle of the assault rifle archetypes. While it has a high range, it cannot achieve 3-shot kills like the AK-47 and does not have the fire rate of an M4.
Grau 5.56 setups are very versatile, but have weaknesses
What is the weapon good at? The Grau can be modified extraordinarily well. Whether you need an assault rifle for high or lower distances, this thing delivers everything.
If you’re okay with 4-shot kills at close range, you can lower the aim-down-sight speed to SMG levels. The otherwise low recoil will be noticeable, but it remains controllable at longer distances. With the Monolithic Suppressor, you have an SMG-like weapon that can deal 4-shot kills up to 40 meters.
At range, it outshines all mobile assault rifles and competes with high caliber weapons like the AK-47 and the Scar. Due to the low recoil, it handles very well at long range, but it has no 3-shot range and enters the 5-shot kill zone beyond about 40 meters.
Where does the Grau 5.56 have disadvantages? The weapon comes into play as an all-rounder but cannot fully convince in any area. The top value is the 4-shot range among the mobile 5.56 caliber assault rifles.
At close range, you are somewhat as fast as SMGs in your sights, but you need one more shot with a lower fire rate. At longer ranges, the Grau has to yield to larger assault rifles.
Additionally, the weapon is not available immediately, but must be unlocked through the Battle Pass. Here’s how to unlock the new weapons.
Pros and Cons of the Grau 5.56
Strong specialist (5.56) seeks AR enthusiasts for shared moments
What should I consider with the attachments? Due to the low fire rate, the magazine feels larger than most other assault rifles. However, take the perk “Gunsmith” as the reload time is high.
With the “XRK Void II,” you get an early grip for the aim-down-sight speed. You should get this right away. But avoid the short “ZLR Drifter A-08” barrel, as it reduces your range and takes away part of the weapon’s biggest strength.
It’s better to take the balanced “XRK CZEN mk2” barrel and increase your aim-down-sight speed with the Tactical Laser instead. With the “Monolithic Suppressor,” one of the attachments we always recommend, you improve your 4-shot range by another 7.5%.
“Battle Pass” weapon beats direct competition at range
How does the Grau 5.56 compare to the competition? In terms of TTK, the weapon does not fare well compared to other weapons. However, it partly compensates for this with high range and good mobility.
- Mathematical TTK – 60,000 milliseconds / rounds per minute (RPM) x shots for the kill
- M4A1 – 300 ms for 4 shots
- Grau 5.56 – 342 ms for 4 shots
- RAM-7 – 272 ms for 4 shots
- AK-47 – 320 ms for 3 shots
The weapon is strong compared to its direct assault rifle competitors in the range between 30 – 40 meters, especially when the M4 already needs 5 shots for a kill, while the AK needs 4 shots.
What do you think of the weapon? I like playing the mobile assault rifles and am excited about new options. However, during my first rounds, it quickly became clear to me that it can’t compete with the RAM-7.
Although the weapon can be well modified for long and short ranges, the Grau’s strength is more in the middle. Between 30 – 40 meters, the rifle fully exploits its potential, and here it is really good.
The Grau 5.56 is another good assault rifle from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but it’s a specialist. I wouldn’t classify it among the best weapons in the game.
Have you played with the weapon yet? What do you think of the new assault rifle Grau 5.56?
