Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has not yet been officially confirmed, but the first new map might already be set: Rust. Take a look at the arguments for and against a timely release.
The CoD series has been around for several years, and accordingly, the list of possible maps that could return in the current Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is long. Now, clues suggest the return of a popular map that has been on the radar of many players for a while: Rust.
What is Rust? This map first appeared in CoD: MW2 (2009). In terms of size, it resembles the very small map Shipment, but Rust offers a bit more complexity. The battles will take place in close quarters and provide a similar pace as on Shipment.
The areas near the edge are protected by containers that provide cover. In the center stands a large structure reminiscent of a refinery. In this area, there are covered points from which agile run & gunners can be eliminated from the sides.
Some pipes and a conveyor belt lead out from the refinery. Here the map gains a bit of verticality, and holding the building or the upper levels will be crucial to gain control of the map.
Ghost and Rust seem connected
Why might the release be imminent? Rust was part of a major data leak that predicted 38 potential maps and 23 additional modes for Modern Warfare several months ago, some of which are already in the game. Since then, the desire for Rust has lingered in the community.
The rumors were further fueled by the recent release of a small teaser on Twitter. In the short video, which announces the new operator Ghost for February 11, parts of Rust are said to be visible, according to numerous fans.
And indeed, two of the three images show quite clear indications that favor Rust. On the left, the pump station with the pipes nearby, and in the right image, the structure in the background could also be part of the refinery.
Additionally, both the cult character Ghost and the map Rust originally come from Modern Warfare 2. A joint return is quite likely, especially given the leaks and hints, for many players.
What speaks against it? A few days ago, the well-known CoD leaker “The Gaming Revolution” shared an English video on YouTube, in which he shares information he allegedly received from insiders.
One of his sources said that due to the negative feedback on the new map design after the MW release, many maps were modified afterward – including Rust.
However, the source could not say whether these works on Rust have already been completed. A release is likely planned with Season 2. He would not be surprised if Rust ends up coming with Season 3 instead.
How likely is a release with Season 2? Since the leaker’s secret source speaks of a planned release with Season 2 and the teaser shows quite clearly parts of Rust, a release with the next season seems very likely.
However, this is not certain. Although just recently the last update before Season 2 was released, the next phase of the game has not yet been officially announced or a release date issued. Whether we will see Rust in Modern Warfare soon remains uncertain for now, but is considered likely by many.
Double XP for the Wait
The end of Season 1 has been declared for some time. The first season runs until February 11 and sweetens the players’ wait with a double XP event that has not been seen in Modern Warfare before.
From Wednesday, February 5, at 7 PM, three double XP multipliers will be activated. So whether you still need levels for the battle pass or want to level up a weapon, Modern Warfare is definitely worth it this week.
