The submachine gun MP5 has been rampaging since the beta phase as one of the strongest weapons in the game through Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and has long remained unchanged. Now there has been a change – just before the world championship.
Calling the MP5 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the king’s weapon would be fair to the submachine gun. Many professionals, especially in the Call of Duty League, rely on the all-round MP and benefit from its pleasant recoil, combined with good range and strong damage. It is also extremely popular among many regular players.
However, trust in the weapon is slowly waning. After some nerfs, the MP still performs really well and can hold its own in the meta, meaning the currently most efficient tactics. But now there has been a small change to the weapon, which is the only firearm for some pros that they regularly use in Modern Warfare – and this does not sit well just before the upcoming world championship.

New design for the MP5 drives pros crazy
What have they done to the MP5? In response to the initial outcry from the pros, CoD expert and YouTuber JGOD analyzed the weapon and compared it to old gameplay footage. He was surprised that he could not find any changes.
But then he got the crucial hint – they changed the “folding stock”. Since a nerf to the “no stock” attachments pros have been using the “FTAC folding”. The part now has a different look:

Why is this such a big deal? What might not even be noticeable to a layman poses a problem for pros. Weeks of training are partly undermined because all reactions were practiced with the previous weapon layout.
If there had been a bit more time, the excitement might not be so great. But changing one of the weapons many pros use just 4 days before “Champions Weekend,” the grand finale of the CDL season, really frustrates some professional players.
What are the reactions? Especially one pro expressed his displeasure about the last-minute changes: Matthew “Skrapz” Marshall, who plays for the team London Royal Ravens.
Austin “Easy Mac” O’Neil plays for the team Atlanta FaZe and is also not thrilled about the stealth changes, but only sees the visual adjustments. Skrapz even goes a step further and says: “Bro, not just the appearance has changed. It bounces more.” JGOD could not find evidence of increased recoil in his analysis. But according to Skrapz feeling, the developers have adjusted something here as well.
Developers promised no changes for pro weapons before the Champs
This whole situation is also such a big deal because the developers previously emphasized that they do not want to make changes to the competitive weapons of pros. “Skrapz” is rightly angry: “It’s about 3 million dollars next weekend and the MP5 has been messed with (the most important weapon). They want to screw us over 100000000000%”:
On August 10, community manager Ashton Williams announced some weapon adjustments on Twitter. Doubts arose back then, and user @CalebSayer pointed out that it might not be a good idea to change the balancing so close to the “Champs”. Williams responded, saying: “That changes weapons they don’t even use.” As it looks up to this point, this is not true.
The mentioned balancing also affected the Bruen Mk9, which has since performed less in Warzone. Here are 3 alternatives to the Bruen.
A quick fix could solve this, right? Theoretically yes, but the motivation behind it is currently not quite clear. This morning (August 26), one of the most well-known CoD pros Seth “Scump” Abner commented on this:
He doesn’t specify where he gets his information from, but the statement is clear: “The MP5 will not be reset for the playoffs. lol” With that, hopes for another “reversion” of the MP5 are more or less dashed. The pros are rightly angry.
As an average player, you likely won’t notice the change at all. For many, the focus is currently rather on the reveal event of CoD 2020, which is supposed to take place tonight (August 26) at 7:30 PM in Warzone. Leaks regarding the possible release date of the new CoD are also already available.
