The AN-94 is the new assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It was introduced as a Battle Pass weapon and has been playable since August 5th. An assault rifle pro now shows his setup for the new weapon.
Who is the pro? Sam “Octane” Larew is one of the best assault rifle players in the world. He has been a pro gamer in Call of Duty since 2014 and is currently playing for Seattle Surge in the Call of Duty League. He recently presented the setup for the M4A1 that is used in the CDL.
How do I get the AN-94? The new assault rifle is available as a reward in the Season 5 Battle Pass, at level 31. If you want to have the AN-94 right now, you need to grind a lot of experience or pay to unlock the required levels.
In our short guide, we explain exactly how you can unlock the AN-94 and the also new submachine gun ISO.
AN-94 – Strengths and Weaknesses of the Setup
How do I set up the setup? You will need the following attachments:
- Muzzle: Compensator
- Barrel: VLK AN-94 Sila
- Sight: G.I. Mini Reflex
- Underbarrel: Command Foregrip
- Grip: Textured Grip Tape
Octane does not forgo a sight, as many pros do with most weapons. He finds the iron sights on the AN-94 simply “terrible”. He prefers the barrel over other options because of the slightly higher movement speed compared to longer barrels.
The grip attachment is his personal preference, just like his decision not to use a stock attachment. That’s something everyone should decide for themselves. The Command Foregrip is one of the best underbarrel attachments for better aiming. You can see his setup in action in his video:
Where is the setup strong? Octane does not highlight any specific strengths of the setup or the weapon itself. However, it can be seen in the video that he is particularly effective at taking out opponents with great accuracy at medium range.
The setup and the AN-94 are particularly suitable on maps where you have fewer tight angles and more open fields or longer alleys where you can engage opponents at greater distances. For example, it is particularly strong on Azhir Cave.
However, Octane also emphasizes a peculiarity of the weapon: When you fire it in single-shot mode, the AN-94 shoots two bullets at once with the first shot from a new magazine. Single-shot is generally weaker with assault rifles, but this trick can allow for clever one-shots.
What weaknesses does it have? At short distances, the AN-94 is apparently hardly usable. Octane says you will probably lose any close-range duel, for example against an MP5 or an M4A1.
However, this is only regarding the pure setup of the weapon, which he also uses for the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare. For Warzone, the AN-94 probably requires different attachments. He hasn’t introduced a loadout with a secondary weapon, gadgets, and perks yet. Recently, he shared some useful tips for assault rifle players that will help you deal with the new AN-94.
