Activision Blizzard commented on the future of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare during its Finance Call. They promise “great new content,” “completely new experiences for Modern Warfare,” and surprises.
Where was this said? Activision Blizzard held the Finance Call for Q4 2019, which spans the period from October to December 2019. During the call, Activision’s bosses, Bobby Kotick (CEO) and Coddy Johnson (COO), discussed plans for Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
The game has received high praise: CoD MW is, along with WoW Classic and Call of Duty: Mobile, the positive outlier for Activision Blizzard’s last quarter.
These are the announcements for CoD Modern Warfare:
- It is said that there is a pipeline of “great content” starting with Season 2 next week
- The team has “prepared surprises” for Season 2 and beyond
- Coddy Johnson talks about “completely new experiences within the Modern Warfare universe”
Overall, Activision believes that CoD Modern Warfare will perform better in the rest of 2020 than Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 did in the same period in 2019.
“Battle Royale” mode for CoD MW is taking shape
What could the surprise be? The big surprise can really only be the already leaked Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In previous Finance Calls, Activision mentioned that CoD MW would offer a “massive multiplayer map” and a “game-changing experience post-launch.” Currently, there is nothing in the game that fulfills this announcement.
A Battle Royale mode would fulfill all of Activision’s promises from then and now. A Battle Royale mode may not be a completely new experience for “Call of Duty,” as there was already the Blackout mode in Black Ops 4 last year, but for “Modern Warfare,” it would be a new experience.
The Battle Royale mode has already been discovered by data miners. It’s a massive map: the mode is said to support 200 players and bring a new idea into the “Battle Royale” genre with the “Gulag”. In a one-on-one fight, eliminated players face off to determine who comes back into the match.
However, this Battle Royale mode has not been officially announced yet. Based on Activision’s current statements, it may not appear until after Season 2.
The Season 2 for CoD Modern Warfare with the promised “great new content” starts on February 11.
According to a recent leak, some content for Season 2 is already known:
