For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the remaster of the legendary Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has recently been released. However, it lacks the equally legendary multiplayer mode and Special Ops. The developers have now explained why this is the case.
Where is the multiplayer mode of CoD: MW 2 Remastered? Gone! There is no separate multiplayer mode in the remaster of Modern Warfare 2. You can only experience the enhanced campaign from 2009 in modern graphics. However, it does bring some nostalgia-fun.
Reasons Against the Old Multiplayer Mode
Why aren’t the developers bringing back an old MP mode? The answer to this question is provided by the developers in their dev blog. The goal of Modern Warfare is for fans of the game to be able to play together seamlessly. That’s why they included goodies like crossplay.
However, if they were to add a paid addon – after all, the remaster of MW 2 is not free – with its own multiplayer mode, it would split the player base again. Buyers of MW2 would not be able to play with other players.
The developers have had bad experiences in the past with such artificial splitting of the community in CoD and surely do not want to repeat the same mistake.
That’s why there is still something similar to the old MP mode: The developers do not want to completely forgo the charm of the old multiplayer mode. Instead of a separate MP mode for the remaster, you will get some classic maps for the regular multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare. Currently, Rust, Vacant, Shipment, and Crash are available.
And those who are playing in the battle royale mode Warzone will find parts of the old maps Broadcast and Boneyard as locations. There has been nothing said about the legendary Special Ops mode from MW2 so far, but it is quite possible that this PvE coop mode will also make a comeback in Modern Warfare at some point.
