In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the free-to-play Battle Royale Warzone, Season 3 is likely starting soon. Due to a small bug in the playlist, we might already know a few of the new maps.
What maps are those? They are two classic maps that have appeared in previous installments of the current Call of Duty: Modern Warfare:
- Backlot – City map from MW1
- Village – Complicated map from MW3
This means that 2 popular classics from previous MWs will soon make their way into the game. Season 2 of CoD ends next week and could seamlessly transition into the new Season 3.

Village and Backlot almost confirmed by bug
What does the bug look like? The CoD YouTuber “WhosImmortal” discovered some unusual displays during his game search and published the images on Twitter:
Instead of showing one of the familiar maps, the new maps suddenly appear at the bottom.
How likely is that? Just over a week ago, a data miner published information about Season 3, and these two maps are also on the leak list. Players have also discovered the code for Village in the background of a Warzone video from the developers.
It is therefore very likely that these classics will come with the next season. Village could be the first to come if the developers follow their previous pattern. Season 1 launched with “Crash”, a MW1 map. Season 2 started with “Rust”, a MW2 map. It is quite conceivable that Season 3 will start with a MW3 map – Village.
When does Season 3 start and what else is coming? The developers are quite tight-lipped about the start dates of their respective content. This was the case with the last seasons, and players also speculated about the concrete start date for the BR spin-off Warzone for a long time. Many thought that March 3rd was set based on in-game hints.
However, since we are in the last week of Season 2 and the creators at Infinity Ward have not announced any extension, as in Season 1, it can currently be assumed that Season 3 will start next week.
In addition to the maps, the data miner has also found potential new weapons and operators:
- Two new operators: Alex and Ronin
- Two new weapons: Sniper rifle SKS and pistol Renetti
- New playlists for Warzone
- Lots of new skins and cosmetics
All this information should be taken with caution. None of it has been officially confirmed so far, but a prediction from last week’s leak has already come true: The release of the remastered campaign of Modern Warfare 2.
