Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launched as the latest installment of the well-known shooter series on October 28, 2022, on Steam. Initially, the “Family Sharing” feature was available. But only a few days later, on October 31, 2022, it was disabled – players responded negatively to the removal.

This is what Family Sharing in CoD MW 2 is about
What is Family Sharing on Steam? The Family Sharing feature was implemented on Steam in 2014. It allows multiple people in a household to access shared, saved games.
An important point is that you do not need multiple digital versions of a game, but all members can access one copy – this certainly saves quite a bit of money.
All individuals can set up their own accounts so that everyone has their own access. Up to 5 people can have access to the games in Family Sharing.
Are there any restrictions? Family Sharing does not work with all games on Steam. It states in the FAQs regarding the question of whether you can use the feature with all games on Steam:
No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games and content may not be available for sharing. Games or content that meet the criteria listed below cannot be shared between accounts.
- Games that require an additional third-party key, account, or subscription to play
- Free-to-play games and any purchased DLC for those games
- Free DLCs for a game
- Games or DLC that are restricted in your region or the region of the borrower
- Games for which the owner has a VAC or game ban
- Base games that the borrower already owns
- Games that are not supported by the borrower’s operating system
- Games that the owner has (automatically) through affiliation with a Steamworks partner account.
It seems that the latest installment of the CoD series also falls under the first point of the criteria.
What is the current situation with CoD MW 2? At the launch of the shooter on Steam, on October 27, 2022, Family Sharing was still activated. However, the website steamdb.info shows that on October 31, 2022, a change was made to CoD MW 2 on the platform: Family Sharing was disabled.
This means that a household can no longer share a single game version of the shooter.

Many complain about the change and wish for the feature to be returned. Some say they had just bought the game for family members, like a brother or cousin, and are now annoyed.
