“Big Overhaul” was in the air
What were the expectations for the update? The expectations of many players for the update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare were relatively high.
There was a rumor that this update would include an “overhaul,” a major revision of CoD Modern Warfare.
Players thought the update would bring profound changes of the caliber:
- the mini-map returns
- the spawn system will change
- or the problems with the maps or camping will be solved
When the update was actually live, players were a bit disillusioned: they expected more.
Call of Duty blames YouTuber for false hype
This is what Infinity Ward says now: Developer Joe Cecot was confronted on Twitter with the false hype around the update. Players feel deceived: Where is the big overhaul that was promised?
Cecot says:
The “overhaul” was a false statement to get attention. We update the game weekly, sometimes twice a week. Season 1 is coming.
Cecot indirectly points to the YouTuber “TheGamingRevolution,” who is said to have spread these rumors. The YouTuber had predicted the big overhaul on Twitter. TheGamingRevolution is a well-known “leaker” for CoD Modern Warfare.
YouTuber says: You brought this upon yourselves
This is what the YouTuber says: He claims he is only reporting what his sources tell him. They must have been fed false information.
According to “TheGamingRevolution,” CoD itself would be responsible for the commotion.
The Senior Community Manager Ashton Williams reportedly said she is preparing the patch notes for “the big update” that “you all are asking for.”
The only update that everyone would have asked for was indeed the big overhaul. That is how the hype was created.
Who is now to blame for the hype? Apparently, two things come together here:
- on one hand, the rumor about the “overhaul” took off because many players wished for it, and TheGamingRevolution is considered trustworthy
- and on the other hand, the Community Manager stirred up the hype around the update, perhaps not knowing how the expectations were already with the players
Therefore, a “high expectation” of the players was accidentally further fueled. The disappointment was then quite high in the end.
At the moment, there are strong rumors around CoD Modern Warfare, reportedly, CoD is set to receive a gigantic Battle Royale mode as a “second wave” – this was reported by data miners. Hopefully, this doesn’t turn out to be a mistake as well.
