We wanted to know from you in a survey about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare what you expect from the developers in terms of maps. However, the results are remarkably balanced.
What was the survey about? A multiplayer shooter like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare comes with various maps, all unique in their own way.
In the article about the survey, which maps you want to see, we showed that the maps from earlier CoD games have a certain basic structure with 3 lanes, which is not very common in the current Modern Warfare.
So we wanted to know from you what kind of maps you wish to see from the developers in the near future.
What do the results look like? The results are quite balanced, with a slight lead for maps from the earlier Modern Warfare titles.
It will be difficult to please everyone
What does that indicate? The results are very close and do not allow for a definitive statement regarding the maps. However, recognizable trends can be seen:
- 3-lane system still very popular
- 66% of you wish for maps with the old basic layout next.
- Only 21% are completely satisfied with the new approach and do not want to see the old system anymore.
- Remakes should be coming
- Many of you want to see remakes of old maps, totaling 48%.
- 39% do not necessarily need the reheated maps from previous installments.
- Map voting feature is a topic
- At least 13% consider the map voting system more important at the moment than the structure of the maps that will appear soon.
Why do many want the old maps back? That fan favorites from older installments also come to current games has become a standard expectation for many players.
Some CoD soldiers feel more comfortable on these maps or enjoy a particular aspect that these maps have.
Opinions actually vary
Why aren’t the new maps as popular? According to some players, the maps are too large and thus offer too little action.
Community member “AgnosticFront” commented under the survey that smaller and more straightforward maps would make the game significantly more enjoyable. He would like to see maps from the Black Ops series:
So I mostly play Shoothouse now because at least something is going on there! 🙂 I don’t find it very entertaining to roam around endlessly without contact, just to get shot by some sniper from the farthest corner. So I would appreciate more small and straightforward maps. Nuketown and Hijacked would be awesome, but since both come from the Black Ops series, the chances are probably slim.

But there are also fans of the new maps: Not everyone needs the old maps and the nostalgic feeling that comes with the familiar locations for some soldiers.
“Der Ralle” thinks that many of the maps are well balanced and look really nice:
Aside from the unfilled TDM matches on the larger maps, where you search for ages until you get some contact, I am really satisfied with the maps. They are fun, look good, and are, aside from a few exceptions, well balanced.

Developers are trying a mix
Are there already announcements about new maps? There is now a Roadmap for Season 1 that includes more free content than ever. Here, 3 maps from the old installments have already been announced, which should please some players, but also many new maps.
But even before the new season, the developers are keeping up and regularly present new content to the players. Currently, a 2 vs. 2 tournament mode is in the works, which is in beta but is already quite playable and offers a grand prize.
