Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has finally released more details about the multiplayer during the big multiplayer reveal. There was also information about the size of the maps and the number of players. In some modes, this is expected to be 100 or more players even without Battle Royale.
What is planned for the multiplayer maps? At the big multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the developers revealed more information about their planned multiplayer modes and map sizes for the first time.
Currently, there are supposed to be large domination maps with 5 flags and two 20-player teams. But this is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Multiplayer reveal indicates domination maps with 100 players
What is behind the 100 players? According to the site VG24/7, Design Director Geoff Smith revealed some interesting details:
“These maps will be even larger! And with a larger number of players. We are already testing with 64 and over 100 players.”
To clarify: Smith explicitly stated in the interview that this is not about a battle royale mode. This was mainly about the domination mode.
“It is not Battle Royale! It is core multiplayer, it is 5-flag domination!”
When will the large maps come? According to Geoff Smith, this is all still a work in progress. They are still looking for the optimal balance between 64 and over 100 players.
Only when they have found the optimal number of players after further testing will the maps come into the game in their final form.
After all, with so many players, some adjustments to the balance, the killstreaks, and also the performance need to be tested to ensure everything works optimally.
So, it’s not necessarily certain that you will see the large maps during the big multiplayer beta in September 2019. But perhaps the developers also want your feedback on this and will bring them into the game for testing after all.
This is what the fans say: Overall, the planned maps and player numbers are well received. The tone in the comments under the interview is largely positive:
- “Excellent. I was initially only interested in the single-player part. […]. But if they release large multiplayer servers with many players, that’s another reason for me to buy it.”
- “EA and DICE must be trembling with fear.”
- “This could bring me back to CoD multiplayer.”
Other users are a bit more skeptical:
“They are really trying hard to turn CoD into Battlefield.” After all, CoD is more known for fast, small maps, while Battlefield has previously specialized in large battles.
But even this was reacted positively by another user, who stated that both CoD and BF players would likely be interested in this.
