Starting today, on September 19, the first players of CoD Modern Warfare can go back into the beta. This time even with crossplay. But how does it work?
In a blog post, Activision revealed how crossplay will work during the CoD Modern Warfare Beta and what advantages players will have.
Modern Warfare in Crossplay – Here’s how it works
This is how crossplay works in the beta: To play the beta, you need a Call of Duty account. If you don’t have one yet, you should create it before the beta starts. You will then have the option to activate crossplay. This allows you to play with your friends on all available platforms.
However, if you don’t want to use the crossplay feature, you can simply deactivate it.
To ensure no one feels disadvantaged due to their input device, there will be different options available for players:
- You can choose to use a mouse and keyboard on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
- On PC, you can select to use a controller
- Players on all three platforms can play against each other as long as they all use either a controller or mouse and keyboard
- There is a mixed lobby where players can play with both mouse and keyboard as well as controllers
Crossplay is also expected to result in shorter wait times in the multiplayer lobby. Additionally, you can create a cross-platform friends list through your CoD account. It doesn’t matter which platform your friends own the game on. The goal is to unite the community.
Which modes support crossplay? All multiplayer modes support crossplay. Currently, there are no plans for a ranked mode or competitive tournaments.
Who can play the crossplay beta? The beta starts on September 19 at 7 PM for all PS4 players. If you have pre-ordered the game for Xbox One or PC, you can start a bit earlier with the PlayStation players through early access.
For everyone else, the open beta phase starts on September 21 at 3 AM.
Until when does the beta run? Interested players can make a personal impression of the game until September 23 at 7 PM. After that, the second beta phase of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ends.
