Recently, the new update 1.09 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released – with many changes. Some internal notes from the developers were discovered in the patch notes. It seems that it was assumed from the beginning that the new patch would not make everyone happy.
What’s going on with Modern Warfare? At the beginning, there was a server-side fix for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which brought some urgent changes, including the now 3rd nerf of the 725 shotgun.
On November 22, the highly anticipated big update 1.09 was released. This introduced new content into the game. Additionally, the patch addressed other problem areas of the new Modern Warfare. The patch notes were huge – over 2 pages long.
However, the changes did not sit well with everyone. It is often criticized that some of the biggest issues in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remain untouched. Moreover, the patch notes contained a note suggesting that the developers were likely aware of this.
What exactly was discovered in the patch notes? The patch notes provided more insights into some things than they actually should have. Because, as it appears, they contained some secret internal notes from the developers at times.
These were apparently not removed in the Battle.net version of the change log – however, these entries were no longer included in the regular patch notes on Reddit.
What exactly is stated in these notes? There were 2 entries that were attached in italics to the regular patch notes.
On one hand, it concerns the Gun Game mode, which came to the game with the new update 1.09. It states as a note: “This is a very popular mode among fans, and its addition should be received positively.”
On the other hand, there was another developer note regarding the much and widely criticized loudness of footsteps in the game. These have now been adjusted once again in the course of update 1.09. Changes were made to the footsteps when crouching as well as during the scope view.
However, it seems they already knew that there would be no love fest for this change. On the contrary, they assumed from the beginning that this change was developed without regard for the community’s wishes and needed further work.
It states: “This is a hot topic in the community, and this is not the change they (the players) hoped to see. Our core players want the footsteps to be drastically reduced.” It becomes clear – they were already anticipating criticism, as they brought a solution that knowingly would not meet the players’ desires.
The update, “after which everyone was asking,” does not make everyone happy: There was plenty of criticism after the update. While many of the changes from patch 1.09 are welcomed, in the eyes of fans, there are still many things that should be improved. The footsteps are among them.
Here are some examples of the most common points of criticism:
- The communication from the developers. On the most important and pressing questions from the community, such as the matchmaking issue, the devs have consistently remained silent.
- The spawn mechanics are still considered terrible by many players.
- Campers are still a problem.
- Many are still dissatisfied with the weapon balance. For example, the M4A1 is still considered the best assault rifle. It took a total of 3 nerf attempts for the op shotgun 725 to finally be in an acceptable state.
- The poor maps are still criticized by many.
- There are not enough challenges for emblems and calling cards in the eyes of many players.
- Players want map voting to return.
- There are still many bugs and glitches.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still has a lot to do if it wants to keep its players happy.
