CoD: Modern Warfare constantly wants to evolve and provide players with a balanced shooter experience. However, the loud running noises and the 725 shotgun have something to say against it, and now the second patch is coming to change that.
What’s the problem? Despite the overhaul in the last patch 1.07 on Friday, November 8th, there are still issues with some minor game elements of CoD: Modern Warfare.
- Movement noises
- Players feel the movements are too loud, making it nearly impossible to sneak or move unnoticed from one spot to another.
- The 725 shotgun
- Many players and even the developers consider the weapon too strong at distance.
Footstep volume remains on the patch list
What do the developers say about it? The developers have already commented on both points and promised improvements. Regarding footstep volume, the next overhaul was announced with the latest patch notes.
We have strengthened the occlusion filter, so noises are better obscured by objects and the volume of footsteps at distance has been adjusted. We have further significant adjustments planned for footsteps, which will come with the next update to make crouched movements and footsteps with scope significantly quieter.

The developers also want to tweak the 725
One of the developers recently added on Twitter: Joe Cecot, Co-Design Director for Multiplayer at Infinity Ward, spoke about the powerful 725 shotgun, which is set to be revised further.
In the tweet, Cecot writes about the long-shot kills of the weapon and that these strong hits at this range are unintended. The linked video by “Hutch” shows how strong the weapon still is even after the patch.
Thus, two of the major points of criticism from recent weeks are back in line for a nerf. The cautious approach of the developers shows how complicated balancing can sometimes be.
Overhauling is not that easy
How are these points being addressed? Both issues are not so easy to tackle with the developers’ expectations. The footsteps should still be audible, and the 725 should remain a good shotgun.
This requires a delicate touch. The footsteps are influenced by nearby objects, and the emitted sound is subject to several calculations. Simply turning down the volume could make this gameplay element completely pointless.
It’s similar with the shotgun. Joe Cecot mentioned on Twitter that they want to preserve the essence of the 725. The shotgun should still reliably take out targets with low health at long distances, but not kill at full health.
It remains interesting to see how Infinity Ward handles player feedback to make their game better.
Patch addresses further inequalities
What do you think about the changes since release? Is Infinity Ward doing a good job so far?
What else are the developers working on? Cecot is currently very active on Twitter and is giving many responses to anxious user questions.
The developers want to revise the spawn mechanics with the next updates and give the weak weapon FAL a bit of a boost.
