It looks like the new Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a really big surprise in store – namely a long-awaited Battle Royale mode. We explain what this means.
What is the surprise all about? On February 11, Season 2 officially started for CoD Modern Warfare. Before that, players had to download a gigantic patch – the update 1.14. Depending on the platform, this update is up to 68 GB in size – larger than some games. Now one knows why.
Because in addition to the previously communicated new content that was presented before Season 2, there is also a previously secret mode. And it can only be about Battle Royale. This would explain the massive size of the update for many.
Update February 19: A leak now speaks of a release on March 10. Possibly even as a stand-alone and free-to-play.
So there it is! Looks like Modern Warfare will indeed get its Battle Royale
No trace of Battle Royale – until the new update: For some time now, rumors and leaks about a Battle Royale mode for Modern Warfare have been circulating in the community. The latest leaks suggested that this mode could be released in Season 2.
Many had speculated and hoped for a Battle Royale in Season 2. So, the disappointment was greater for some players when there was no mention of Battle Royale during the official presentation of Season 2.
It was not noted on the roadmap either. Even in the launch trailer for the new season, there was nothing that hinted at Battle Royale.
But after update 1.14 was loaded and the first fans flooded into the game, joy quickly spread. Because now it really looks like the multiplayer of CoD MW will soon offer a Battle Royale alongside the regular part.
This supports the idea of a Battle Royale in Season 2 of CoD Modern Warfare: Once you had loaded a small update in the game, you were greeted with a new cinematic. And that is already the first big hint at a Battle Royale mode. But see for yourself:
What now supports Battle Royale?
- Until the middle of the clip, nothing extraordinary happens. Then Ghost talks about something being wrong in Verdansk and that their own people are shooting at their comrades. Price should send fighters they can trust.
- Then it gets really interesting. The view zooms out and initially shows a large airport area where numerous soldiers are already fighting. Some are also using vehicles or helicopters.
- The further the image zooms out, the more everything points to a Battle Royale. A massive map is revealed.
- Then, in true Battle Royale fashion, a transport plane flies in, from which players jump out and activate their parachutes.
- In the background of the map, there is a kind of green poisonous cloud that apparently limits the playable area of the map. Then the intro video ends.
Then, quickly another change catches the eye. The main menu of the game has changed. In addition to the previous options campaign, multiplayer, co-op, and shop, a new menu item has been added. However, it cannot currently be selected and is still displayed as “secret”. It is not known when the new mode can be played.
Thousands of players see this as a more than clear sign that we will soon be able to dive into Battle Royale matches in Modern Warfare. Many also associate the massive patch size with this. After all, the update for Season 1, which had a comparable size, was “only” about 20 GB.
Does that mean Battle Royale in CoD MW is called “Warzone”? The name and some other details about the new mode have now been confirmed.
A Reddit user recently posted the following image and claimed to have received it from an insider source:
Now it is official – the new mode is indeed called Warzone.
What do you think? Can we soon play Battle Royale in Modern Warfare? Or could it be something completely different?
