With Call of Duty: Mobile, the CoD series has been successfully brought to smartphones. Activision apparently wants to build on this.
What’s happening at Activision: Apparently, Activision intends to significantly expand its mobile division. Currently, there are several job postings on the developers’ official website seeking individuals for the new in-house studio “Activision Mobile”.
Activision Mobile is expected to participate in the live operations of Call of Duty Mobile, but also produce new AAA mobile titles: “We are looking for developers with mobile and PC backgrounds who are passionate about their work and, like us, believe in realizing the potential of mobile gaming,” it states.
And thanks to the job postings, the studio’s first project is also known.
Call of Duty gets another mobile spin-off
The job posting shows: Not much specific information is revealed in the job posting, but a new CoD spin-off seems to have high priority. “Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise,” it explains.
In fact, the first steps appear to have already been taken: “In collaboration with Activision studios worldwide, work has begun on a new AAA mobile game in the Call of Duty series.” What this game might look like is still open.
How successful CoD is on smartphones: That Activision wants to continue building on the mobile division is hardly surprising. After all, the shooter broke all records upon release.
Over time, Call of Duty Mobile, developed by TiMi Studios, gathered more players and broke the 500 million downloads mark in May 2021 (via Call of Duty). The free-to-play game has reportedly generated over a billion dollars in revenue (via CharlieIntel).
A new spin-off could build on this. What this might look like is still open. Speculations about a dedicated version of Warzone for smartphones have been circulating for some time. However, there is still no official information on this.
Also, outside of the mobile world, there is a lot happening with Call of Duty. Warzone is still very popular. However, this does not apply to some player types you can encounter in CoD Warzone.
